LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor and filmmaker Vincent Gallo has been under scrutiny after several women accused him of making inappropriate and explicit comments during the casting of the upcoming movie ‘The Policeman’.
Of late, Gallo was reported to the SAG-AFTRA union by at least three women who alleged the ‘Buffalo 66’ star made unsettling remarks to them during the casting process in November 2023, per Rolling Stone.
What are the accusations against Vincent Gallo?
Gallo is starring in a movie named ‘The Policeman’ which is being written and directed by Jordan Gertner. The film is based on the life of the rapist and serial killer James DeAngelo, popularly known as Golden State Killer.
Gallo is predominantly known for his 2003 film ‘The Brown Bunny’ which was strongly criticized for its 'unsimulated' s*x scenes with Chloë Sevigny. It led many people to question whether Sevigny was pressured into agreeing to the acts.
The complaint was filed by at least three women, among whom two were in callback auditions to play DeAngelo’s victims in the film that dealt with the subject of p*rn. The third did not attend the callback audition after hearing from the others’ experience.
One of the women said in the complaint that Gallo allegedly told the women that they must 'truly believe you will die if you don’t do as I say', per The Guardian.
The complaint alleged that he also made some s**ually explicit comments before threatening, “I will kill you, I want you, you the person, not you the character, not you the actor, but you, to truly believe you will die if you don’t do as I say.”
He allegedly also told the actors that did not have any actual “control” in the film despite the violent nature of its content.
He added, “And just like you would in real life, if this were happening to you, I want you to do all of the actions necessary to do that,” and added, “You have no control, I am in complete control.”
He also reportedly made veiled se**al threats to the actors.
One of the actors, under the pseudonym of Emily, told Rolling Stone, “I never felt truly protected from all of this, from what frankly was looking to me like a recipe for sexual misconduct on set.”
SAG-AFTRA is currently conducting an investigation on the accusation.
'Didn't we already cancel this guy?'
The fans were not shy of sharing their views on Gallo on the social media sites. On a Reddit thread, one of the fans commented, "Watch his Howard Stern interview he is a straight up lunatic."
Someone else said, "The Zouks really has that 'disheveled and unhinged' look down to a science."
Another fan retorted, "You can make edgy cinema without resorting to this crap."
"It’s always the ones you think," said someone else poignantly.
Another social media user commented, "Yeah, this guy sounds like the EXACT person who should be playing a ra**st /s. James Franco is in the movie too. Color me surprised."
Another fan recollected, "He notoriously treated Christina Ricci like garbage during the filming of Buffalo 66."
Referring to James Franco who also dabbled with similar accusations previously, another fan said, "James Franco is signed up for this project too!? That seems like a bold choice based on his own current career situation."
Someone else, however, harbored a more optimistic view as they observed, "To be fair nobody would know Gallo existed if not for the bad publicity."
"Didn't we already cancel this guy?" asked someone else.
"Vincent Gallo is historically lunatic in every function," declared another.
