NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The National Park Service has disclosed its intentions to dismantle the statue of William Penn in a Philadelphia park, which commemorates his contributions to the founding of Pennsylvania and is located at his former residence.

The proposed "rehabilitation" for Welcome Park aims to create a more inviting, precise, and inclusive experience for visitors, as stated in an NPS news release.

The strategy entails enriching the interpretation of Native American history in Philadelphia and has been formulated in collaboration with representatives from the Haudenosaunee, the Delaware Nation, the Delaware Tribe of Indians, the Shawnee Tribe, and the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.

In response to this development, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity utilized X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the news with his 6.4 million followers, sparking widespread frustration and a variety of opinions across the internet.

Hannity’s tweet featured an article from his official website which stated that the Biden administration is planning to remove a statue of William Penn in Welcome Park in Philadelphia, PA, as per Fox News.

Also, the park is named after the ship Penn took to Philadelphia in 1682 and was established 300 years later.

Additionally, the word “rehabilitation” of the park focuses on Native American history.

If the National Park Service proceeds with the proposal, Welcome Park will retain key elements of its original design, such as the street grid, rivers, and the east wall.

Additionally, the plan includes the addition of a planted buffer on three sides and the introduction of a gathering space featuring circular benches.
