WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Jamie Raskin (D-MD) made a compelling case for an investigation into Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's financial dealings during an interview with Jen Psaki on her MSNBC show on Sunday, June 16.

As the interview drew to a close, Psaki asked Raskin to comment on Senate Democrats' recent decision to investigate the billions of dollars Kushner's fund received shortly after his White House tenure.

"We only have about a minute left. But I want to ask you about a double standard that I know is close to your heart, which is that around Jared Kushner. And this is something I know you’ve had a lot of interest in, as I mentioned," Psaki started.

“This week, Senator Ron Wyden launched an investigation into Jared Kushner’s hedge fund and how he managed to raise so much money from foreign sources. You’ve studied this so closely. What do you hope to learn from this investigation?” Psaki inquired, referencing Raskin's previous efforts to scrutinize Kushner, which were thwarted by the GOP majority in the House.

Raskin responded by emphasizing the constitutional implications of Kushner's financial activities.

"It’s a constitutional issue. The founders of the country put it right in the Constitution: neither the president nor members of Congress, nor anybody else in federal office can receive any kind of payment," he stated.

"Emolument, which means just money, an office or a title or present from a king or prince or foreign state of any kind, whatever. Jared Kushner comes back with $2 billion from Saudi Arabia after being the Middle East Point guy. And so that creates a huge constitutional, ethical and political problem for us," Raskin said, per Mediaite.

Raskin argued that an investigation is necessary to prevent the US government from resembling autocratic regimes. "We need legislation to make sure that people are not turning our government into the kind of government that Putin’s got in Russia war bands got in Hungary, which is basically a criminal state," he added.

Psaki, a former Biden White House press secretary, pointed out the significance of Kushner's role in the White House. "Jared Kushner actually worked in the White House, which I think is an important thing for people to remember."

In contrasting Kushner's situation with that of Hunter Biden, Raskin highlighted the different standards applied.

"Hunter Biden never did. Hunter Biden never work for the federal government, and he never made any deals with foreign governments. And he has gone through a federal trial under the US Department of Justice. So if it’s if the DOJ is weaponized against anybody, it looks more like Democrats," Raskin asserted.

"There’s a Democratic congressman in Texas, a Democratic senator in Jersey, Hunter Biden. But nobody’s whining about that. Nobody’s complaining about it because our party believes in the rule of law and the system of justice we’ve got."

Internet reacts to Jamie Raskin's remarks on Jared Kushner’s Saudi billions

Many people online agreed with Rep Jamie Raskin's remarks. A user tweeted, "Get the investigation going Jamie."

Another added, "This investigation of Jared and his wife should have been conducted 2 years ago."

A third claimed, "Rather remarkable how the GOP House fixates on a few dollars that Hunter Biden received for consulting while totally ignoring the $2B that Saudi Arabia dropped into a shell company set up by Jared Kushner a few days after Trump left office."

"Investigate Jamie," said a user.

"Kudos for even recognizing it," read a tweet.
