WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested on Thursday, October 17, in Williamson County, Tennessee, on charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and illegal gun possession.

The arrest occurred after Cutler was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Bridge Street in downtown Franklin.

Franklin Police Department officers, according to a press release, responded to a "minor traffic collision in downtown Franklin" shortly after 5 pm local time.

After investigating, the department said that evidence at the scene suggested Cutler had "rear-ended another vehicle."

Officers who spoke to Cutler at the scene reported "a strong odor of alcohol" on him.

He also displayed signs of intoxication, with the Franklin Police Department noting that Cutler "was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes."

Jay Cutler refused field sobriety tests, says Franklin PD

When questioned further, Jay Cutler "refused" to participate in "field sobriety tests," prompting officers to take him to a local hospital.

There, police obtained a blood sample after securing a blood search warrant.

During the investigation, officers also found "two firearms in his vehicle, including a loaded pistol," the police department said.

The former NFL star was later arrested on multiple charges, including DUI, violation of implied consent law, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Cutler is also facing charges for failing to exercise due care to prevent a collision.

Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail. The former Chicago Bears quarterback posted a $5,000 bond and was released later that night, according to a spokesperson from the Franklin Police Department, TMZ reported.

Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari's relationship 

Jay Cutler, who was previously married to reality star Kristin Cavallari for nearly a decade, gained additional fame through their reality TV show, 'Very Cavallari', which aired from 2018 to 2020.

The show documented their lives in Nashville with their three children: sons Camden, 11, Jaxon, nine, and daughter Saylor, eight.

The couple, who met in 2010 and got engaged a year later, filed for divorce in 2020, citing "irreconcilable differences" and "inappropriate marital conduct."

In her divorce filing, Cavallari alleged that Cutler was "guilty of such inappropriate marital conduct as renders further cohabitation unsafe and improper," while also asserting that "any misconduct alleged or implied against her" in Cutler's divorce petition "was in response to and/or as a result of misconduct on [Cutler's] behalf," according to People.

Cutler played in the NFL for 12 years, starting his career with the Denver Broncos in 2006 before moving to the Chicago Bears and retiring from the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
