Jeffrey Scott West: Tennessee man shoots partner's son during heated argument before killing himself
BLOUNT COUNTY, TENNESSEE: In a tragic video, an irate man is seen shooting and hurting his partner's son during a quarrel, leading to a dramatic police standoff.
While the gunman, Jeffrey Scott West, 68, barricaded himself in the Tennessee home when SWAT arrived, the victim, Kyle W Spitze, 24, was injured but managed to escape.
What happened at the crime scene?
The newly-released video, which is shot from Spitze's point of view, shows him wildly running away and waiting for police outside after taking a bullet to the ear.
The shocking video captures the moment when 68-year-old Jeffrey Scott West shot 24-year-old Kyle W. Spitze, the son of his partner.
The recently-released video documents the events at the Tennessee residence before an extended police standoff lasting over two hours, Moganews En. reported.
"I'm getting ready to blow his goddamn brains out! Right f**kin' now!" West is heard yelling the threat at the start of the clip as Spitze records from his bed.
Spitze then responds to the threat, "Blow my brains out? Shoot me and I guarantee you'll go to jail for life." All this while he keeps recording the elderly Jeffrey Scott West standing in the doorframe.
Melanie Spitze, Kyle's mother, is seen attempting to diffuse the tension by putting herself between the two men. While he continues to record the first-person portion of the clip, West keeps waving and pointing the gun at Spitze multiple times.
The mother then closed the door while Spitze kept recording.
"I'm tired of his s**t!" yells West through the closed door. Spitze then gets up and opens the door, restarting the argument.
He yells, "You gonna blow my mom's brain out?" as the argument continues in a Quarry Hollow Road hallway. Spitze's 60-year-old mother attempts to keep the men apart while he keeps filming.
Jeffrey Scott West shoots himself dead
Spitze suffered an injury when West unexpectedly pulled out a gun, just missing hitting Spitze in the ear. Spitze hurried outside with his mother and dialed 911, according to Daily Mail.
Teams from the Special Weapons and Tactics and Crisis Negotiations departments of the Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene. They started talking to West in the hope that he would surrender.
Just before 11 pm, police forced entry into the house with a K-9 unit after their failed attempt to convince him to surrender. Once inside, they came across West's lifeless body. It looked like he had shot himself to death.
