WASHINGTON, DC: Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, now an MSNBC host, offered critical insights into President Joe Biden's recent ABC interview, suggesting he appeared "in denial" about his standing with voters following a challenging debate performance.

During an episode of 'Inside With Jen Psaki', she remarked that Biden’s performance was “just OK” and failed to assuage concerns among Democrats after a lackluster debate.

Psaki noted, "He also seemed at moments a little bit in denial about the state of the race, and maybe confidence was a strategy going into this. But it is also not ideal for people watching and looking for a sign that he recognized the difficulty of the path ahead. Overall, when the debate ended, it left us all in this sort of purgatory for the moment. [His interview] was better than the debate, [although] not a home run at all."

During Biden’s interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, he projected confidence in his chances against GOP opponent Donald Trump, dismissing concerns raised by various polls showing him trailing nationally and in battleground states. "All the pollsters I talk to tell me it’s a toss-up. It’s a toss-up," Biden asserted, despite mounting pressure from within his party urging him to withdraw to bolster Democratic electoral prospects. He also mistakenly referred to a projected red wave in the 2022 midterm elections.

Psaki highlighted Biden's response when asked about the potential to defeat Trump, quoting him as saying, "I’ll feel as long as I gave it my all and I did the good as job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about."

Psaki noted widespread dissatisfaction among Democrats with Biden's handling of questions about defeating Trump, particularly in light of a CBS News/YouGov poll indicating that 72% of registered voters doubt Biden's "mental and cognitive health necessary to serve as president."

Reflecting on the interview, Psaki summarized, "I would say it went just OK for the president. In many ways, people watching saw what they wanted to see because, for some, he looks better than he did at the debate."

Following the debate, Biden's performance sparked concern among Democrats, with several House members publicly urging him to consider stepping aside due to concerns about his age and cognitive abilities.

Despite these calls, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the race, challenging wavering Democrats to contest his candidacy for the presidential nomination.

During the 90-minute televised debate, Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points. Trump seized the opportunity to ridicule Biden's occasionally unclear statements. The incumbent frequently stumbled during his responses and, at one instance, paused before stating, "I beat Medicare."

Netizens react to Jen Psaki's remarks against Joe Biden

A social media user tweeted, "Lol. If Jen Psaki was still White House press secretary, she’d still be lying and denying just like KJP is now."

Another said, "Uh oh…. The house of cards is on fire."

One claimed, "Things people say when they OFF the Team."

"She turned on him," added a user.

"Little Red Lying Hood still lying. Biden has been in denial for a while now!" read a tweet.
