Jennifer Bowser: Pennsylvania mom claims ‘meaner voices’ told her to strangle 5-year-old son to death
CAMBRIA COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA: A Lilly woman has been arrested after police said she claimed to hear "voices" that eventually told her to kill her 5-year-old son.
Jennifer Bowser has been charged with homicide in connection to the killing of her son Samson Bowser, on Monday, February 5, according to a report by CBS affiliate WTAJ.
Jennifer Bowser heard 'meaner' voices
Authorities reported that while responding to a call regarding a 5-year-old experiencing cardiac arrest at a residence on Cosey Lane in Lilly, Cambria County, they discovered a mother performing CPR on the child. WTAJ reported that the child's condition was listed as unrevivable, as per court documents.
Police said that when they questioned Jennifer, she claimed to have heard a voice from "a machine box or mic box" that told her to smother her child so he didn't go to "H E double hockey sticks," WTAJ reports.
She told police that she barricaded herself inside her room with her son because a voice called "Kayla" told Bowser the child wasn't hers and was trying to take him from her.
According to WTAJ, which cited the criminal complaint, Bowser told police that the voices became "meaner and meaner," threatening to shoot her son through the wall if she didn't smother him. Bowser reported to the police that her son would be better off being smothered than shot.
Jennifer Bowser admitted the crime
Jennifer admitted to smothering her child using her hands and her blanket, WTAJ reports.
According to the news outlet, Bowser's mother reported to the police that her daughter had visited the doctor on January 30 due to similar voices she had been hearing, but had not received a formal diagnosis.
According to Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer, there are privacy concerns over information disclosure and mental health will play a significant role in the case.
"To say that this is a difficult case for law enforcement is an understatement. Many of us are parents and I think we all hugged our kids a little harder last night," Neugebauer said, according to WTAJ.
Additionally, Bowser is scheduled to appear for her arraignment on February 20.
