PALATKA, FLORIDA: A callous mother from Florida allegedly attempted to sell her toddler for $500 at a bank, but nobody acted upon her offer, and last week the child was abandoned.
An employee of the bank approached Jessica Woods, 33, who was observed idly waiting outside an H&R Block store in Palatka, Florida, with her 18-month-old daughter.
Jessica Woods offered to sell the child for $500
The worker had identified Woods as the mother who lived nearby and even changed her daughter in the bank's bathroom.
According to a probable cause affidavit seen by the Daily Mail, Woods was once seen spanking and elbowing her daughter inside the bathroom.
Woods was discovered dozing off on an outdoor air conditioner the following morning, March 5, while her daughter was unwrapped in a nearby shopping cart.
When the worried bank employee asked the woman if she needed assistance, Woods is said to have demanded money.
The outlet claims that after her demands were not satisfied and the employee offered to purchase for her what she needed, Woods became so irate that she threw her child.
Woods went back to the bank later that day, and she put her child down there, and he began crawling toward the cars right away. When the worker picked up the child, Woods inquired as to whether she would like to buy her daughter.
“Woods told the citizen she did not need anything but, offered to sell the child to the citizen for $500,” the Palatka Police Department said in a press release. “When the citizen refused to purchase the child, Woods walked away, leaving her daughter behind.”
Jessica Woods faces several charges
In order to clean the toddler up, the employee brought her inside the bank before calling the police to report Woods' heinous actions.
Before the Department of Children and Families could arrive and take custody of the girl, officers placed the child in their care.
“As a result of an investigation, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Woods charging her with child abuse, child neglect, and abandonment of a child,” the police said.
Since then, the child has been placed in foster care. Woods was found on March 7 and was charged with six felonies, according to jail records.
She was taken to the Putnam County Jail and charged with three counts of abuse of a child without great bodily harm, unlawful desertion of a child, aggravated child abuse, and selling or surrendering a minor for money or property.
A $255,000 bond was required in light of the charges, according to court documents.
