Joe Biden ridiculed as he claims German chancellor who died in 2017 attended a G7 meeting with him in 2021

Joe Biden once again mixed up the names of European leaders, this time confusing former German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the late Helmut Kohl

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: During multiple fundraisers in New York on Wednesday, February 7, President Joe Biden recounted an anecdote about speaking with Helmut Kohl, the former German chancellor, four years after his death.

Specifically, while addressing donors, Biden mentioned his participation in his first G7 summit as president and subsequently claimed that Kohl, who died in 2017, attended the 2021 UK gathering, according to Mediaite.

This particular slip-up is reminiscent of a similar one from Monday when the 81-year-old commander-in-chief told a similar story at a Las Vegas campaign stop and confused the current French President Emmanuel Macron with his predecessor Francois Mitterrand.

Joe Biden mixes up Angela Merkel with her predecessor Helmut Kohl during multiple New York fundraisers

On Wednesday, Biden recounted his first G7 meeting as the nation's head by saying, "First got elected president I went to a G7 meeting with seven heads of state in Europe and I sat down and said, 'America's back.'"

"And the president of France looked at me and said, 'For how long?' And I never thought of it this way," added the POTUS.

He then proceeded to commit his verbal gaffe by misidentifying German Chancellor Angela Merkel with her predecessor Helmut Kohl, who died four years prior to the 47th G7 summit held at Cornwall, England, in June 2021.

Biden further remarked, "And then Helmut Kohl of Germany looked at me and said, 'What would you say Mr President if you picked up the London Times tomorrow morning and learned there’s 1000 broken down the doors of the British parliament, killed some [inaudible] on the way in to deny the next prime minister to take office. And you think, what would we think?'"

In another fundraiser on the same day, the POTUS repeated his previous mistake by saying, "It’s interesting to hear about the first meeting I attended as president of the United States, it was in Great Britain. I showed up… and I sat down and said, 'America’s back' and Macron looked at me and said, 'For how long? How long?' Not a joke."

He elaborated, "And with that, Helmut Kohl said, 'Joe what would you think if you picked up the phone and picked up the paper tomorrow and learned in the London Times on the front page that 1000 people stormed the parliament, broke down the doors of the House of Commons, and killed two bobbies in the process and trying to stop the election of a prime minister?'"

BERLIN, GERMANY - MARCH 22: German Chancellor Angela Merkel speaks to the media to announce further

Merkel was the chancellor of Germany during the period in question, while Kohl had not been in office since 1998 and died in 2017.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first instance in which Biden has recounted this story while mistakenly identifying another country’s leader, as evidenced by his speech in Las Vegas, where he reportedly referred to "Mitterand from Germany" before correcting himself, stating that Mitterand was, in fact, the leader of France.

Moreover, Mitterand died 25 years before the 47th G7 summit, so the incumbent probably was referring to French President Macron but somehow jumbled up their names.

Internet trolls President Joe Biden for committing repeated gaffes during his campaign speeches

After the recent gaffe of Biden came to light, netizens wasted no time in taking a dig at him.

One remarked, "Maybe he did it via Ouija Board," and another quipped, "Maybe he can see ghosts."

A person opined, "This is why Biden and Trump should retire and allow a new generation of leaders to prevail, but they won’t, because their egos won’t allow it."

Someone else joked, "He's secretly hooked on the ouija board he picked up at a garage sale last month."

"Maybe he did, who knows what invisible person he is talking to and shaking hands with," said an individual.
