WASHINGTON, DC: Former Barack Obama administration official Van Jones claimed the Democratic Party insiders continue to be in a "full-scale panic" a week after the lackluster debate performance of President Joe Biden.

Jones, who served as a special adviser to Obama, in his recent appearance on CNN, noted that the inside conversations about Biden's debate show were entirely different from what his allies publicly stated on air.

The 83-year-old incumbent's poor performance in the June 27 debate against Republican opponent Donald Trump prompted calls for him to drop out of the race in favor of a more eligible candidate, possibly Vice President Kamala Harris.

Amid the uproar, several Democratic elected officials publicly defended Biden's reelection bid. In addition, the White House dismissed all claims of Biden being mentally unfit and later confirmed that he will remain in the race.

"I gotta be honest. Everybody comes on the air and it says all this great stuff, but behind the scenes, it's full-scale panic," said Jones on CNN, as per Mediaite

He added, "People are passing around legal memos, PDFs are flying back and forth on WhatsApp trying to figure out what are the options. How can you replace Biden? How do you get him to do it in a way where he feels respected as he should be respected? Who should Kamala Harris' vice president be? The conversation on air and the conversation off air are completely different."

The CNN commentator hailed the octogenarian as a "great candidate," but asserted he might be unable "to get across the finish line."

Jones further said a "mature" Democratic Party would take it into consideration, and the current conversation was "about how this happens, not whether."

As many Democrats continue to call for Biden's replacement ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August, Rep James Clyburn has suggested a "mini-primary" to allow eligible candidates to secure the remaining uncommitted delegates.

Netizens criticized Biden's refusal to exit the race after Jones claimed that the president's poor debate performance had left the Democratic Party in shambles.

"Won't be long before Joe takes that last train for Wilmington," quipped a person and another added, "'An epically bad showing' Are you insane? Biden is unfit for office and should resign immediately."

Someone else remarked, "What will it take for Joe to cave? The longer he stays the more humiliation he'll have to endure."

"Good, they created this mess," stated an individual, while one more added, "It’s so obvious to everyone but for some reason the party thinks they can continue to gas light the average American."

"Joe is gone. Like always, he just doesn't know it yet," joked another person and one more noted, "You know Biden is cooked when his faithful weeping acolyte Van Jones has turned on him."

"They’re panicking because the person in the on-deck circle has no chance of winning," claimed a netizen, with one echoing, "He's done. Exposed. They're all exposed."

"History will speak of @JoeBiden humiliation - not his respect," expressed an outraged user.
