WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden expressed his gratitude to Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the US Secret Service, "for her decades of public service" on Tuesday, July 23, the day after she resigned.

Cheatle's resignation was announced following a torturous four hours of questioning by the House Oversight Committee on Monday. The lawmakers were trying to find out more about the attempt on Donald Trump's life at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, as well as the actions taken by the US Secret Service in response.

Joe Biden says Kimberly Cheatle has 'selflessly dedicated and risked her life' to protect America

Joe Biden praised Kimberly Cheatle's service in a long statement and said that he was glad that she had been appointed as the Secret Service's director in 2022 following the retirement of former director James Murray.

"She has selflessly dedicated and risked her life to protect our nation throughout her career in the United States Secret Service. We especially thank her for answering the call to lead the Secret Service during our Administration and we are grateful for her service to our family," Biden said, per Fox News

"As a leader, it takes honor, courage, and incredible integrity to take full responsibility for an organization tasked with one of the most challenging jobs in public service," he continued.

"The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13 continues, and I look forward to assessing its conclusions," Biden added. "We all know what happened that day can never happen again. As we move forward, I wish Kim all the best, and I will plan to appoint a new Director soon"

Donald Trump lashes out at Joe Biden's adminsitration after Kimberly Cheatle resigns

Donald Trump's response to US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's resignation on Tuesday morning was very different from that of Joe Biden.

The former president wrote in a post on Truth Social shortly after the USSS director's retirement announcement that “The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy."

“IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!” Trump added.

The former president told 'Jesse Watters Primetime' last night that Cheatle came to see him in the days following the assassination attempt. "It went very nicely. She was very nice, I thought. But, you know, somebody should have made sure there was nobody on that roof," he described.

Speaker Mike Johnson backs Kimberly Cheatle's resignation

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La, stated that he is "happy" to see that Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

A little over a week ago, Johnson had informed the outlet that, should the need arise, he would be prepared to urge Biden to dismiss Cheatle, who had been defying legislators' increasing demands to resign.

“I'm happy to see that she has heeded the call of both Republicans and Democrats,” Johnson said on Tuesday, July 23. “Now we have to pick up the pieces. We have to rebuild the American people's faith and trust in the secret services and agency.”

The speaker also said Cheatle "did the right thing" by resigning.

Joe Biden faces backlash from Internet for praising Kimberly Cheatle

Netizens lashed out at the president for heaping praise at the now-former USSS director Kimberly Cheatle following her resignation on Tuesday. Several reports have emerged over the past few days that the 81-year-old refused to fire her from her post despite growing calls from his political opponents.

One X user said, "Your administration is disgusting," while another tweeted, "The former director of the Secret Service is a disgrace to the Secret Service and to this nation."

"What a F-ing joke. This tells us that you put the order in to have President Trump k!lled," echoed one user. "Joe blink if you are in danger," mocked someone else.

"How can you thank her when she failed in her final act for you as president?" wrote another.
