WASHINGTON, DC: Joe Manchin has faced trolling after he hinted his loyalty towards President Joe Biden despite him being not a member of the Democratic Party.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle asked the US Senator on Tuesday, June 25, if he would still cast his vote for Biden after registering himself as an independent at the West Virginia State Capitol, as reported by the HuffPost.

Joe Manchin said, “I’m going to be voting. I’m trying to bring my buddy back to the middle.”

After Ruhle insisted on more, the 76-year-old politician said that he “loves his country too much to vote for Donald Trump,” as he added, “But, with that, I think those of us who’ve known Joe Biden for a long time would like to see the Joe Biden we have known.”

Joe Manchin claimed ‘our national politics are broken’

In May, Joe Manchin announced that he registered as an independent.

A statement from him read, “From my first day in public service in 1982, I have always focused on doing what’s best for my state and my country, without regard to party or politics.”

He elaborated, “Throughout my days in elected office, I have always been proud of my commitment to common sense, bipartisanship, and my desire to bring people together. It’s who I am. It’s who I will always be. I have never seen America through a partisan lens.

“However, since becoming a United States Senator in 2010, I have seen both the Democrat and Republican parties leave West Virginia and our country behind for partisan extremism while jeopardizing our democracy.”

“Today, our national politics are broken and neither party is willing to compromise to find common ground. To stay true to myself and remain committed to put country before party, I have decided to register as an independent with no party affiliation and continue to fight for America’s sensible majority,” Manchin added.

Netizens say they ‘don’t trust’ Joe Manchin

Meanwhile, people have slammed Manchin online with an X user tweeting, “@SRuhle, come on. Manchin is an opportunist con. The media needs to stop giving him so much credit.”

Another user commented, “@Sen_JoeManchin this is what loving your country looks like. It’s never been country first for you.”

“I always enjoy your discussions, but I was highly disappointed with your talk with. @Sen_JoeManchin & his daughter Heather Bresch. They kept talking about how the Democrats aren't for the people, but Heather helped increased insulin by 500% and Manchin defended it,” a fourth user shared.

A fifth one added, “I don’t trust him.  He’s shown over and over that he has no commitment to truth, or party.”
