LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: MSNBC host Joe Scarborough recently claimed that Donald Trump and his "desperate" family are "preparing for civil war."

The MSNBC host's statement came after Trump and his family members linked his recent assassination attempts to political adversaries and discussed an "enemy within" the country.

Joe Scarborough slams Donald Trump’s 'lies' at PA rally

During a recent morning broadcast, Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, criticized Donald Trump just hours after the former president held a dramatic rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which marked the site of the first assassination attempt against him. Scarborough condemned Trump's "lies," asserting that the family is gearing up for a serious conflict.

During his rally, Trump delivered ominous comments, reflecting on the challenges he has faced over the past eight years, including slander, impeachment, and indictments.

"Over the past eight years those who want to stop us from achieving this future have slandered me, impeached me, indicted me, tried to throw me off the ballot. And who knows? Maybe even tried to kill me," he said.

He also revisited his characterization of an "enemy within," which he described as a more significant threat than foreign adversaries.

"I always say there’s an enemy from within and there's an outside enemy. And if you're smart, the outside enemy is not going to be a problem. Russia, and China and North Korea, we're not going to have a problem if you have a smart president. But we have an enemy from within which, I think is much more dangerous than the outside enemy," Trump stated.

Joe Scarborough calls Trump family's rhetoric 'un-American'

Joe Scarborough aired clips of  Eric Trump and Lara Trump, who made similar claims during their remarks. "And then, guys, they tried to kill him. They tried to kill him. And it's because the Democratic Party, they can't do anything right," Eric Trump said.

His wife Lara Trump, who is the co-chair of the RNC, added, "This is no longer a fight between Republican versus Democrat, left versus right, it is good versus evil and good is going to win this battle, ladies and gentlemen."

Scarborough responded sharply to their remarks, describing their rhetoric as "un-American" and indicative of a dangerous mindset.

"The level of un-American activity that you just saw is stunning. That is un-American. They know they’re lying. Donald Trump knows that’s a lie... This is an increasingly desperate person, an increasingly desperate family, who is preparing for civil war - Just are," he said.

The host continued to criticize Trump's audience, expressing disbelief at their willingness to accept what he called "crazy lies."

"I saw part of Donald Trump’s speech this weekend. It was remarkable, the lies. Not just on things, this here, but on policy, he’d make up things and throw it out there. I was shocked that the audience was really that stupid, to believe the crazy lies that he was throwing out there," Scarborough told his wife and co-host Mike Brzezinski. "It is the falsehood, the firehose of falsehoods," he added.

Joe Scarborough calls out Donald Trump’s claims about the 2020 election

Joe Scarborough also highlighted Trump’s persistent claims regarding the 2020 election being stolen.

"But they continue to lie about 2020. Vance continues lying about 2020. Trump continues lying about 2020. Senators will not say on Sunday news shows that Donald Trump lost in 2020, despite the fact Republican officials in every one of those states that mattered said that, yes, in fact, Donald Trump lost," he emphasized.

"[Georgia Governor] Brian Kemp said it in Georgia. Republican officials said it in Michigan. Republican officials said it in Pennsylvania. They said it in Arizona. They have said it repeatedly," he noted.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden recently cautioned about the potential for violence following the election, emphasizing the importance of free and fair electoral processes.

Trump's references to an "enemy within" echo sentiments from historical figures such as Senator Joseph McCarthy, who warned of internal threats during the red scare, stating, "When a great democracy is destroyed, it will not be from enemies from without, but rather because of enemies from within."

Abraham Lincoln also spoke of dangers arising from within the nation in his 1838 Lyceum speech, saying, "If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher."

Joe Scarborough slams Donald Trump for his 'lies'

Joe Scarborough's comments have showcased a stark divide among viewers.

One user wrote, "Translation: “We're increasingly desperate.” Joe Scarborough sounds off with a “firehouse of falsehoods” about Trump, JD Vance, and others. Says WE are “preparing for civil war."

Another user replied, "Stop crying Mike. It's okay little buddy, you don't have to piss your pants over it."

One added, "How the hell do you tell Keith Olbermann from Joe Scarborough? It's like they're twins, stupid stupid twins.."

Another said, "He's just droning on, spewing hateful rhetoric. I can't listen anymore."

One commented, "Two of the most prolific liars in the country saying someone else is lying, is convincing enough for me to believe that the person they’re talking about is telling the truth."
