LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Everything was not okay with John Mulaney’s ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler when her marriage to the comedian started to go downhill.

Recently, Tendler revealed that she wrote a suicide note while battling depression and voluntarily checked herself into a mental health facility in 2021 in the wake of her crumbling marriage.

The former couple, who were married for seven years, finalized their divorce in January 2022. But trouble started brewing in the paradise two years ago in 2020.

Almost a year after her relationship started to crumble, the 39-year-old was hospitalized for depression and suicidal ideation in the first two weeks of 2021.

Recently in the wake of Mulaney’s marriage to Olivia Munn earlier this month, Tendler is sharing her experiences in her upcoming memoir ‘Men Have Called Her Crazy.’

Anna Marie Tendler, who is an artist by profession, is releasing her memoir ‘Men Have Called Her Crazy’ where she details about writing a suicide note in the wake of her breakup, per Daily Mail.

In an excerpt published in Elle on July 23, Tendler admitted writing a suicide note. Though she didn’t specify when she wrote it, the artist revealed that she ripped it “into tiny pieces the following day” and scattered “it into various garbage cans” outside her New York City apartment.

She revealed that when she was battling depression, she hoped to “reach a place where I can face hardship without trying to destroy myself.”

After that, in harrowing detail, Tendler explained the process that happened after she checked herself into the facility.

Tendler wrote, “First, they take my suitcase away from me. This is so they can search my clothes for drugs and weapons.”

She continued, “[The hospital staff] are warm, but not too warm, hardened from years of dealing with bulls**t from patients who check in against their will, who are angry to be here, and who take their anger out on the first line of duty.”

However, for her, it was different as she said she was “relieved, even happy” to be there, after her therapist had told her they were at an “impasse.” Nevertheless, Tendler recounted that her therapist “was at a loss for what to do with me.”

The makeup artist revealed that she held back tears while explaining that the “intense suicidal ideation, self-harm, disordered eating” actually pushed her toward the thoughts of self-harm.

She wrote further, “The nurse then assesses me for suicide risk.”

As part of the procedure, Tendler was then asked by the nurse whether she had “thought about taking [her] life in the past 48 hours,” adding if she had “the means to carry out this plan.” The caregiver further asked her whether she had been experiencing “feelings of worthlessness.”

When Tendler said “yes” to all of the questions, the nurse asked, “On a scale from one to 10, with 10 being the greatest, how great is your desire to die?”

Tendler gave a shocking reply, as she said, “Eleven.” She, nevertheless, wrote, “I wanted to die, but I cut myself instead, and that cutting wasn't meant to kill me.” She further admitted that the suicide note that she wrote was full of “absurdity, its self-involvement.”

She reflected, “It was largely about how no one around me seemed to be paying attention to my mental and physical decline,” before adding that she was “blinded by anger” at the time.

“Underneath the vanity was a deep depression, a seemingly bottomless chasm of worthlessness and anxiety,” Tendler admitted, before adding, “I was a woman losing her grip on a life I was holding so tightly to.”

Anna Marie Tendler’s book does not mention John Mulaney

Despite the fan speculations, John Mulaney is not mentioned in the memoir at all. TMZ reported in March that the sources who have had direct access to the memoir have said, her husband "is never mentioned in her forthcoming offering... either directly or indirectly."

Even she once shared on social media, “It is a story about mental health; about being a woman; about family,” and added, “And finally, about the endless source of my heartbreak and rage - men.”

Instead of focusing on her relationship with the ‘Saturday Night Alum,’ Tendler focused mainly on the treatment she received from various men in her life.

Per Daily Mail, she was hospitalized at the same time when Mulaney spent 60 days in rehab for cocaine addiction and alcoholism in December 2020.

After leaving the facility he asked for a divorce from Tendler, subsequently filing it in July 2021. After meeting in 2013, they tied the knot in 2014.

Following their breakup, Tendler shared a statement saying she was “heartbroken” but wished him “support and success.”
