SAN JUAN, UTAH: Jonathan Fielding, a 19-year-old from Blue Springs, Missouri, who had recently moved to Utah, died after falling from a canyon overlook on January 27. He was hiking with his friends at Moon Overlook, also known as Moonscape Overlook.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4 pm informing that a man had fallen from a lookout spot in between Caineville and Hanksville, as per KSLTV. The death was said to be accidental.

She said her brother should be a cautionary tale and urged people to be careful and make logical choices.

“Never trust the ground on the edge of a cliff. The rocks may look solid, the ground might seem like it will hold, but it’s still an eroding ticking time bomb," she wrote in Facebook's 'The American Southwest' group.

She added, "All it takes is one wrong step to dislodge rocks, one moment of unbalance, a trip over a rock, and you can plummet to your death.”

"No view is worth the suffering that your family and friends will go through. No view is worth the risk that rescuers face when trying to save people and recover bodies," she added.

“There was no reason for my brother to die. Please don’t make the same mistakes he did,” Rebecca continued.

Jonathan Fielding was loved by many and was a great example of selfless love

Jonathan Fielding was an avid hiker and photographer who loved the extreme views and adrenaline rush from being so high up.

His GoFundMe page, set up to help with funeral expenses, stated, “Jonathan is loved by many and was a great example of selfless love.”

It also noted that Fielding was hiking with his friends in Utah when the fatal accident happened. "He was an avid hiker and loved the extreme views and adrenaline rush from being so high up. He was only 19," Rebecca wrote in another post. 

"While Jonathan’s time in life was limited, his impact on others was not," his obituary said  adding "He was loved by many. He will be missed by all that knew him."

In one more Facebook post, Rebecca wrote, 'There’s no words to describe the the way it feels to be alive when he’s not.

She continued, "Jonathan was the greatest guy you’d ever meet. He could make anyone smile and feel better just by talking to him...He’d always drop whatever he was doing to listen to me."



 

Rebecca added, "Jonathan thought he was invincible. He was so young, so happy, so full of life. Nothing scared him. This kind of thing was never supposed to happen to him. It doesn’t feel right being in a world without him and I’d give anything to trade places with him.
