LITTLETON, NEW HAMPSHIRE: A Vermont father, who killed his two daughters in a horrific car accident while high, broke down in court as the judge handed down a minimum three-year prison sentence.
Jordan Couture, 39, entered a guilty plea to multiple counts, including negligent homicide, regarding the collision that claimed the lives of his daughters, Kyriana, 10, and Kelsey, 7.
Jordan Couture's license suspended
In December 2021, Couture's truck rolled over on the I-93 in Littlejohn, New Hampshire, while he was exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph. His two daughters were hurled from the car since they were not buckled up. They died at the scene.
Couture's license was suspended at the time, his truck was unregistered, and unprescribed drugs were discovered in his system.
Jessica Gokey Couture, Couture's wife and the mother of his children, told the court on Tuesday, February 20, that "our girls wouldn't have wanted this."
"Jordan has been through enough with this accident," she said through tears and added, "Our girls loved him to pieces. He was an amazing father. I don't care what his record has to say."
According to WMUR, Elroy Sequeira, the defense attorney, stated, "Mr. Couture loved his daughters with every fiber of his being, and he has to live with that day for the rest of his life."
Jordan Couture receives prison term of 3-7 years
The guilty pleas were accepted by Judge Lawrence MacLeod, who expressed concern regarding Couture's prior driving record in Vermont.
Daily Mail reported, "You were tempting fate. That's what your record tells me. And, sadly, that came to fruition," MacLeod said. "My heart goes out to you folks. This process is not going to heal your wounds, sadly. But I will accept your pleas," he continued.
Couture received a prison term of three to seven years, with an additional three to seven years suspended. More than $40,000 was raised through a GoFundMe page created at the time to pay for the two girls' funeral costs.
The page states that the girls were headed home following a meet-and-greet with actress Piper Rockell when the accident occurred.
According to their grandfather Richard Firth, "Kyriana enjoyed dancing, singing, and instigating brother Jacobi and her teenage sister Alexis," DailyMail stated.
He went on to say, "Alexis appreciated Kyriana's make-up tips and consistent sassiness. Kyriana had a heart of gold and loved her family (including all of her grandparents)."
"Kelsey enjoyed dancing with her big sister, riding her bike, and spending time with her siblings and especially her Nana," he further added.
