Julie Mitchell: Florida council candidate charged for stabbing husband and daughter with kitchen knife
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: A council candidate in Florida informed authorities that "Satan lived in her home" after allegedly stabbing her husband and 17-year-old daughter with a large kitchen knife.
Online records indicate that 54-year-old Julie Mitchell is facing multiple charges, including four counts of aggravated battery and two counts of resisting an officer with violence.
A probable cause affidavit has offered additional details about the case, stating that a sergeant from the Tequesta Police Department responded to a stabbing call at the residence on Golfview Drive on the morning of Thursday, January 25.
The daughter, described as crying and hysterical in the police report, informed the authorities that her mother had a knife and was inside the house.
The mother already stabbed her husband and daughter while the sergeant was en route
While en route, the sergeant received information from dispatch that the mother had stabbed both the husband and the daughter with a knife.
The daughter, who had a cut to her head, was outside and reported, "My mom just stabbed me and my dad," according to the affidavit. The sergeant instructed her to remain outside while she entered the residence.
What did the officers do upon arrival?
Inside the home, two officers were attempting to gain control of Mitchell's hands as she held a large kitchen knife in her right hand.
According to the report, the first words the defendant allegedly uttered were, "Demons are out to get her, and she renounces to Satan."
Officers successfully disarmed her, allowing the knife to fall onto the kitchen counter and slide onto the floor. Mitchell, who was covered in blood, was then taken into custody.
Mitchell's husband sustained a cut to his upper left arm. Paramedics transported all three individuals to the hospital, and a crime scene investigation was initiated.
While at the hospital, prior to receiving any medication, Mitchell reportedly told the sergeant, "God still loves the world, and he gave us his only son," according to the document.
Mitchell renounced Satan while she was at the hospital
When asked why she was at the hospital and why she was covered in blood, Mitchell renounced Satan, as noted by the sergeant.
"She told me that Satan lived in her home. When I inquired about the stabbing, she informed me that she believed her husband, daughter, and their dog were the devil. Consequently, she claimed to have sodomized her husband and stabbed her daughter in the heart," The sergeant said.
"When I asked her if she thinks her daughter and husband are dead or alive, she said she thinks they’re both dead. She then wanted to take a break, and I stopped my interview," he added.
What charges does Mitchell face?
Mitchell was booked without bail into the Palm Beach County Jail on four counts of aggravated battery and two of resisting an officer with violence, online jail records show. Her next court date is set for February 20.
Mitchell was running for a seat on the five-member Tequesta Village Council in the March 19 election.
The status of her candidacy is not immediately clear. A spokesperson told The Palm Beach Post on Friday that Mitchell had not informed village officials of any change about her candidacy.
