Justin Mohn: Man accused of beheading dad Michael allegedly 'destroyed' his own brain through drug use
LEVITTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA: 32-year-old Justin Mohn was arrested and charged with first-degree murder hours after beheading his 68-year-old father Michael, and later showing off his head in a YouTube video.
In a conversation with Daily Mail, former classmates of Justin Mohn said that the alleged killer "snapped" after taking "a lot of psychedelic drugs" including LSD, while studying Agribusiness at Penn State University.
Justin Mohn 'destroyed his brain'
One of Mohn's classmates said, "It's common knowledge that he took a lot of LSD, and it's widely accepted by his friends that it destroyed his brain," adding, "He stopped responding to his friends, he just ghosted everyone. After he attended Penn State he would post these paranoid statuses and delete them."
Many of his friends had said previously that they wouldn't be surprised if he killed someone one day.
On Tuesday, January 30 Mohn was arrested and charged with first-degree murder hours after beheading his father Michael, and showing off his head in a YouTube video.
Before his alleged drug usage, Mohn was described as "snobby, cocky, and clever" during his teenage years. In high school, he earned the title of class clown.
A former friend, cited by Daily Mail, referred to Mohn as a "genius" who excelled at anything he attempted, showing no signs of mental illness.
He further said, "He was always happy, never upset, never angry. He never got into fights before college.''
"It was around 2015 that he started posting paranoid rants, that seems to be when he snapped and started having the same mindset as in his video," he added.
Another friend of his added that he ''honestly suspected that he was going to shoot up a federal building, and then this happened with his dad and he was found near the military base."
According to Daily Mail, Yearbook images from Mohn's High School show him grinning after winning Class Clown two years running.
Mohn struggled to get a girlfriend
Justin, characterized as athletic but slightly awkward, actively participated in the school's soccer team for an extended period. Despite his athletic pursuits, friends of Mohn noted his challenges in finding romantic connections, a topic he lamented in his self-released Spotify albums.
As early as 2015, Mohn started sharing rambling and paranoid statements on social media. By 2018, one of his posts included a threat to sue any woman alleging a romantic encounter with him during their college years.
"All 40,000 Penn State students already saw me as famous and too cool to show up to my own parties", Mohn wrote.
He added, "I am not kidding, I will consider it defamation and or a tort if any girl I did not sleep with brags about sleeping with me - I'm sorry ladies you'll just have to consider yourself nobodies forever."
For background information, Pennsylvania police found Michael's severed head inside a plastic bag, carefully positioned in a cooking pot in a bedroom adjacent to the bathroom.
In the same bathroom, authorities recovered a large kitchen knife and a machete from the bathtub.
