Justin Mohn: Pennsylvania man who beheaded father bought handgun by surrendering marijuana medical card
LEVITTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA: The Pennsylvania man accused of showing off his father’s severed head during a politically charged online rant this week first shot the federal worker with a handgun which he had bought a day earlier, a Pennsylvania prosecutor said as per CNN News .
According to Inquirer, days before visiting the gun shop in Croydon, 32-years-old accused Justin Mohn surrendered his medical marijuana card in order to possess the firearm, officials said.
How did Justin Mohn kill his father?
Just one day prior to killing his father Michael F Mohn and the release of a gruesome YouTube video in which he called for the execution of government officials, Mohn entered a Bucks County gun store and lawfully bought the 9mm handgun that police believe he used in the murder.
"There was nothing legally precluding him from purchasing that gun,” Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said during a Friday, February 2 news conference.
In the days before visiting Johnston’s Sporting Goods in Croydon, Mohn, who was unemployed and lived with his parents, had surrendered his medical marijuana card in order to possess the firearm.
"That also shows you the clear state of mind that he was in, having planned what he ultimately carried out,” the prosecutor said.
Mohn, as per the police had neither a history of diagnosed mental health issues, nor a criminal record.
According to the local police, they were previously called to three different incidents involving Mohn: an argument in his driveway in 2011, a complaint from the son in 2019 alleging that a coworker had threatened him, and a call from his Philadelphia employer in 2023 regarding his behavior, requesting legal counsel in order to fire him.
Justin Mohn called 'very weird' by ex co-workers
A former coworker who delivered flowers with Mohn in Philadelphia last year claimed that his misogynistic remarks made them uncomfortable at work. As a result, staff members looked up his writings online, where he advocated for overturning the government and a “hypothetical violent revolution” against “traitor older generations.”
He said, "This guy is very weird, making people uncomfortable, and he also has all this writing, but you can’t fire people for that."
Mohn quit about a week or two after the discovery, coworkers said.
An autopsy showed Michael F Mohn, a longtime federal employee, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head before he was decapitated on Tuesday, January 30 evening in the family’s bathroom with a kitchen knife and a machete.
The father’s head was found wrapped in plastic in a cooking pot.
