NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris tried to dodge her position on transgender surgeries and said that the decision rested with doctors and not the government during an NBC interview on Tuesday, October 22.

During the interview, Harris was asked by interviewer Hallie Jackson, "Do you believe that transgender Americans should have access to gender-affirming care in this country?"

Kamala Harris replied to the question, "I believe we should follow the law. You're probably pointing to the fact that Donald Trump's campaign has spent tens of millions."

She was soon interjected by Jackson who said, "I'm asking you to define yourself. Just broadly speaking, what is your value? Do you believe they should have that access?"

Harris then said, "I believe that people, as the law states, even on this issue about federal law, that that is a decision that doctors will make in terms of what is medically necessary. I'm not going to put myself in a position of a doctor."

The Vice President dismissed the question as a "distraction" and went on to highlight Donald Trump's more dramatic proposals for the country.

Kamala Harris added during the interview, "So let's not get distracted by the issues that, to your point from the introductory point you raised, people want to know that their president has a plan to make their life better."

She continued, "That includes addressing, bringing down the cost of living. It includes dealing with prescription medication costs. It includes addressing the housing crisis and affordable housing crisis in our country."

Jackson, who seemed unsatisfied with Harris' answers, said, "I will move along, but I don't think I heard a clear answer from you on the issue of gender-affirming care. It sounds like you're saying there should be something between trans-Americans and their doctors. It feels like that's a long way from 'We see you' and 'We love you,' which was your message to trans-Americans in May."

Harris dodged a similar question from Fox News anchor Bret Baier who asked her if she still supports taxpayer-funded surgeries for illegal immigrants.

Harris said, "I will follow the law, a law that Donald Trump actually followed. I think he spent $20 million on those ads trying to create a sense of fear in the voters because he actually has no plan in this election that is about focusing on the needs of the American people."

She added, "Twenty million on an issue that, as it relates to the biggest issues that affect the American people, is really quite remote and again, his policy was no different."

Internet trolls Kamala Harris as she dodges question on transgender surgery

Several internet users trolled Harris as she tried to dodge her position on transgender surgeries and said that the decision rested with doctors and not the government.

Some online comments read "One candidate dodges projectiles while the other dodges legitimate questions. The choice seems clear, Trump 2024!" and "She is hiding who she is. She avoids questions and then filibusters incoherently on subjects she thinks might get her a few votes."

A person also stated, "She’s dodged a lot in her four years as VP. She’s very good at it," whereas one mentioned, "Harris' standard answers now are that she “will follow the law”, with the exception when it came to 10 million illegal border crossers and the rioters of 2020."

A user also wrote, "Another Harris 'flip-flop'. She regrets saying so many things she can't remember what she said," while one commented, "Trump dodges bullets while she dodges questions."
