WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris replied to a member of the audience with a Spanish twang while speaking at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Leadership Conference in Washington on Wednesday, September 18.

The GOP nominee was born in California and grew up in Canada for a while. However, she has been accused of putting on Midwestern, Southern, and even French accents on occasions depending on her audience, reported the Daily Mail.

In a viral clip from the CHCI conference on X (formerly Twitter), a crowd member is heard shouting, "We love you."

Harris quickly replied, "I love you back" with a Spanish twang.

Psychotherapist explains why Kamala Harris may be switching accents

Psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert told the Daily Mail that there are two reasons people change their accents depending on their listener, also known as "mirroring" or the "chameleon effect".

Some do it out of empathy, while others use it to conform to a social setting.

"Using a fake accent could also be a result of feeling self-conscious around a particular group and feeling like she has to make changes to her baseline voice in order to be accepted - to some extent this a natural and normal way to handle people we might perceive as different than ourselves," stated Alpert.

"There's a possibility she feels like she won't fit in, so she overcompensates by taking this whole accent thing to the extreme," he continued.

"I think there could be an element of Harris trying to gain acceptance across these different demographics. But again, I think it's backfiring."

"By altering her accent she might be perceived as inauthentic or manipulative and ultimately could undermine trust if the audience feels she is not genuine," he later added.

Kamala Harris trolled for speaking with a Spanish twang at event

Netizens took to X to mock Kamala Harris for apparently trying out a new "fake" accent at the event and found it "hilarious."

"As a Spanish dude, this is actually hilarious," wrote one X user.

"She needs to go on a comedy tour when she loses," wrote another.

"This is hysterical. She is so used to being programmed that the switches happen instantly now," tweeted one person.

"When you have no real personality, you switch your personality (and accent) to fit the crowd around you. She’s as fake as a $3 bill," added another.

"She's just brushing up for that career as an impressionist that she'll be pursuing after her devastating defeat in November," stated one individual.

"She should apply for SNL, might have more luck!" exclaimed another.
