NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Kathie Lee Gifford is on the road to recovery after falling down the stairs at her Tennessee residence which resulted in a fractured pelvis in two locations while she was already recovering from hip replacement surgery.

The 70-year-old broadcasting legend credits her healing to the "hundreds of thousands of people" who have been praying for her.

On July 30, Kathie Lee Gifford was hospitalized for a week after falling down the stairs.

She was in the midst of recovering from a painful hip replacement surgery as they "were down to the absolute nubs" when she slipped as she hurried from "four-story brownstone" to assist a friend who was locked out in the sweltering 100-degree heat.

“I had been in pain for over two years, and it was really, really a horrible time for me," she said.

She told People in July that the hip replacement was "one of the most painful situations of my entire life."

"I just went too fast in stupid shoes and I went tumbling," Gifford told Today.

Despite the severity of her injuries, including fractures at both the front and back of her pelvis, Gifford was astonished to discover that almost two weeks after returning home, her pain had vanished.

Gifford was taking a stroll in her farm using a walker when she noticed something strange, New York Post reports.

"I was in no pain at all, and I was off painkillers. I was off all that stuff,” she said.

Kathie Lee Gifford's doctor was surprised by her rapid recovery

Upon realizing she was no longer in pain, Kathie Lee Gifford reached out to her physician who recommended a follow-up X-ray on August 8. The outcome surprised both Gifford and her doctor.

"He comes in with my X-ray and goes, 'Look at this, Kathie. You want to see your X-ray?' And I go, 'That’s my X-ray?’ He goes, ‘Yeah. You're completely healed. You are cured,'" Gifford recalled.
