FRENCHTOWN, MICHIGAN: Six individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to the 2023 murder of Kayla Sedoskey.
Sedoskey's body was discovered wrapped in a tarp at an abandoned juvenile detention center in Frenchtown Township.
The mother of a two-year-old son had been shot in the head three times at close range two weeks before the discovery on March 2, 2023, as per ClickonDetroit.
Michigan police have revealed the tragic circumstances of Sedoskey's death following the conviction of the sixth suspect for second-degree murder.
Kayla Sedoskey's ex-boyfriend conspired to kill her along with five others
Kayla Sedoskey's ex-boyfriend, Steven Bails, along with five others—Brin Smith, Kaylyn Ramsey, Narena Bail, Sierra Bemis, and Alexander Feko—conspired to kill Sedoskey following multiple disagreements, according to clickondetroit.
Officials stated that the group planned for Smith to pose as someone interested in dating Sedoskey. Using Facebook, he catfished her and arranged a date.
On February 15, 2023, Smith picked up Sedoskey and drove her to the abandoned facility as per authorities' accounts.
Steven Bails, Ramsey, and Bemis were waiting at the facility when Smith and Sedoskey arrived. Once she entered, Sedoskey was shot three times with what police believe to be a .22-caliber handgun, they said.
Police revealed that unbeknownst to Sedoskey, Smith's apparent interest in her was a component of a scheme orchestrated by the group, which also included him catfishing her on social media.
Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Yorkey revealed there was evidence that suggested that Sedoskey's murder was her ex-boyfriend Steven Bails's "wedding gift" to his new wife, Narena Bails, as per Inside Edition.
There's also evidence that suggests the murder was the result of a heated argument between Sedoskey and another woman named Kaylyn Ramsey, according to Yorkey.
Fragrances used to hide the smell of decay
Narena Bails monitored a police scanner and was supposed to alert the group if law enforcement was sent to Boysville.
Feko disposed of the gun after the murder. The day after the murder, Steven Bails, Smith, Ramsey, and Bemis returned to Boysville to conceal Sedoskey’s body and mask its odor with fragrances.
Steven Bails, Narena Bails, and Smith fled the state after Sedoskey’s body was discovered.
