COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO: Newly obtained autopsy reports shed light on how Aden Wentz, 7, and Elianna "Ellie" Wentz, 9, were killed in their own home.

The Colorado Springs Police found the children dead on December 19, 2023, and the suspicion soon fell on their mother, Kimberlee Singler, 35, who fled to the United Kingdom and was apprehended in London 11 days later.

She is currently in the process of being extradited to the US.

Victims' blood contained harmful amounts of doxylamine

The autopsy reports from the El Paso County Coroner's Office, obtained by 11 News, stated that both children died after being shot in the head. In addition, Ellie sustained "incised" wounds to the neck.

Moreover, their blood contained potentially harmful amounts of doxylamine, a drug commonly used to treat insomnia.

The autopsy report noted, "Autopsy and investigation indicate that these injuries were incurred as a result of the deliberate actions of another person," as per BBC

Singler's actions were believed to have stemmed from the long custodial battle with her ex-husband, Kevin John Wentz.

In a news release from early January, Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez said, "Two innocent lives were tragically taken from our community. Young lives that were filled with hopes and dreams for a bright future. I am heartbroken over this loss."

He added, "The Colorado Springs Police Department stands with the victims, family members, and others in our community who are grieving. Our detectives, lab personnel, and victim advocates continue to work tirelessly, in partnership with the District Attorney’s Office, to bring justice for these victims."

Vasquez noted, "This incomprehensible act understandably raises a lot of questions and has an impact across our community. We will provide answers, to the extent we can, as soon as it is appropriate for us to do so."

Kimberlee Singler fled to the UK before she could be arrested

Police were called to Singler's Colorado Springs home on December 19, 2023, in response to a report of a break-in.

Upon their arrival, they discovered her nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son deceased, along with her 11-year-old daughter, who was injured.

The mother was at the time regarded as a victim and a witness. Authorities felt there was insufficient evidence to link her to her children's deaths, so they let her leave the hospital, and she apparently fled for the UK.

Subsequently, the police stated that the burglary report was found to be false, and an arrest warrant was issued on December 20, 2023.

On December 30, 2023, Singler was arrested in London, according to the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), and she is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on February 26 for her extradition hearing.

Once she reaches the US, the mother will face multiple murder charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Singler will also be charged with felony child abuse and assault.
