YORK COUNTY, VIRGINIA: The 40-year-old woman from Virginia is facing murder charges in connection with the death of an 11-month-old baby who was inadvertently left inside a car for multiple hours.

Earlier, in September 2023, Kristen Danielle Graham, aged 40, was first accused of felony child neglect and misdemeanor animal cruelty as per PilotOnline.

This incident involved a dog that was also left in the car and tragically perished. Additional details concerning the circumstances surrounding the baby's and dog's deaths have emerged.

The police made the charges against Kristen Danielle Graham more serious because she left a baby and a dog in a hot car for a long time.

They now say she's charged with a very serious crime called felony murder. They decided this after looking at the results of the baby's examination and talking to the Commonwealth attorney's office.

The police also said that Graham took care of Myrical Wicker for many days at her home in the Seaford area of York County.

They say Myrical spent a lot of time with Graham because her mom often left her there. Graham was a friend of the family and lived close by. She worked as a caregiver for an elderly man, earning $10 an hour for working 12 hours each day.

How did the 11-month-old child and dog die?

Sheriff Ron Montgomery stated that Graham had been looking after the child for approximately two days.

Around 1 a.m. on September 12, 2023, she took the child and the dog to purchase cigarettes for a friend at a 7-Eleven in Newport News. After spending some time at her friend's house, she returned home.

Graham later told investigators that she woke up after 2 p.m. due to noise from her phone and realized she had left baby Wicker alone for over six hours in a parked SUV outside her Seaford residence. A man then took Wicker to the hospital, wrapped in a garbage bag.

The outdoor temperature that day reached 87 degrees Fahrenheit, and it was even hotter inside the vehicle, with a heat index close to 100.

This action constitutes felony homicide, a form of second-degree murder punishable by up to 40 years in prison. It is intended for accidental deaths that occur during the commission of another felony, including child neglect.

It's worth noting that Wicker, the deceased child, was described as a loving, intelligent, and joyful baby by a family friend. They said she brightened up any room and was a delight to be around.
