CAMDEN, SOUTH CAROLINA: After allegedly shooting the mother of his children, a South Carolina man led deputies on a high-speed chase and is currently under custody, Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan said.

LaQuincy Pollard, 51, reportedly drove over 120 mph while eluding law enforcement on Highway 1 before stopping at a gas station and turning himself in.

Victim of fatal shooting identified as Daysha Nicole Johnson

The tragic incident occurred at 11:46 pm on Thursday, March 28, night. Authorities said that a shooting incident on Camden's Boyd Road was reported to the deputies of the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO).

It is reported that the father of the victim's two children shot her. The woman was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital after suffering severe injuries.

Sheriff Lee Boan identified the woman as 34-year-old Daysha Nicole Johnson.

KCSO found Pollard's car on Dicey Creek Road a while later, and they attempted a traffic stop. According to KCSO, they were involved in a high-speed pursuit on Highway 1 that reached over 120 mph when the driver refused to stop.

LaQuincy Pollard surrendered and was taken into custody

Pollard eventually turned himself in at a Bethune gas station, according to KCSO. Johnson died at the hospital from her wounds, the KCSO was notified an hour after Pollard was brought into custody.

“Two young children had their lives changed forever tonight due to a horrible decision made by someone they looked up to as a protector, their father,” said Sheriff Lee Boan of KCSO, as reported by WIS.

“These precious, innocent children lost both of their parents tonight for no good reason. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers,” he added.

Pollard has been charged with murder, having a weapon during a violent crime, running a red light, and other offenses, according to deputies. He is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
