GILLESPIE COUNTY, TEXAS: In a harrowing turn of events, a Texas woman made a desperate 911 call on Friday, March 15, reporting that she had fatally shot a man who allegedly abducted and drugged her.
The incident unfolded near a winery along East US Highway 290, as authorities responded to the woman's distress call in Gillespie County, just miles northeast of Austin.
Woman's 911 call details alleged abduction and self-defense shooting
According to the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office, the 45-year-old woman from Montgomery dialed emergency services around 12:40 pm, revealing that she had resorted to using a firearm in self-defense after enduring a traumatic ordeal of being abducted and drugged.
“Her whereabouts were briefly unknown until it was determined to be near a winery in the 10800 block of East US Highway 290,” the sheriff’s office alleged in a news release. “The woman was able to describe a vehicle in which she was associated and the weapon that was used,” they added, according to Fox News.
Law enforcement discover deceased man in parked vehicle
Following the woman's call, law enforcement officials swiftly located the scene, where they discovered a vehicle parked in the outside lane of westbound traffic. Inside the vehicle sat a man in the front seat, later identified as 49-year-old Lance Damon Reid from the Houston area, who appeared to be dead.
Authorities later confirmed the man was dead at the scene, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, was promptly transported to a local hospital for evaluation and questioning by investigators.
