WASHINGTON, DC: Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, asserted that it "doesn't matter" if her father-in-law, Donald Trump, is in prison during the Republican National Convention, he will still be named the GOP nominee.

As Trump faces sentencing on July 11, by Judge Juan Merchan in three weeks, coinciding with the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the party remains unfazed. Trump is expected to be officially nominated despite the possibility of receiving prison time.

Lara Trump claims Donald Trump will be Republican Presidential nominee

In an interview with Real America’s Voice, Lara emphasized that her father-in-law's physical presence at the convention is inconsequential. "He will go on to be our candidate all the way to November 5th, when he then is reelected as our 47th president," she stated confidently.

“It doesn’t matter whether Donald Trump is in Trump Tower, Mar-a-Lago, or anywhere else they may try to put him,” Lara said. “On the day that we, as the Republican Party, will be nominating him as our official candidate and our official nominee for president. He will accept that no matter where he is. He will go on to be our candidate.”

Lara also suggested that his 34 felony convictions are a testament to broader concerns about America potentially adopting a third-world or communist future. Meanwhile, reports have surfaced about Trump's growing apprehension regarding the prospect of serving prison time. Some outlets mentioned he's been seeking advice from acquaintances about the potential implications of a jail sentence.

While many believe he may avoid prison, opinions within the legal community vary. Former prosecutor Diana Florence noted that given the gravity of the charges, a sentence of incarceration would be warranted. Each of the 34 felony counts against Trump carries a maximum sentence of four years, with the possibility of serving them concurrently if convicted on multiple counts.

Netizens erupt over Lara Trump's bold claim about Donald Trump’s nomination

In the wake of Lara's controversial comment, the internet has exploded with reactions, many mocking and criticizing the statement.

A social media user commented, "How can mostly sane, mostly reasonable, moderate republicans even think of electing the Orangeman? I used to be one and this is beyond belief."

Another user said, "Eric and Lara Trump are starring in the remake of dumb and dumber."

"The world is looking at us as the country who states no one is above the law, if trump is spared jail time because the judge is reluctant to give him prison time like he was when he allowed trump to violate the gag order 10 times, than we will no longer be the country of law and order," claimed one.

A user added, "What a proud moment for the GQP. Trump can share a cell with hunter."

"Well Duh! Isn’t that his major motivation for running in the first place? Isn’t that why he announced his candidacy a year early?? All of that has been to try and use the presidency as either a get out of jail free card or as a way to further delay and possibly dismiss any further prosecutions," stated another.

"When he goes to prison he will have plenty of republican company. They can't seem to avoid committing crimes and getting locked up," mocked a user.

"Yeah, optics do not matter, the American people do not matter...it's all about the happiness of the Orange narcissist," penned a user.

"Very symbolic for the Republican party, being for law and order while voting for a convicted felon. So perfect for them," said an individual.
