Leah Remini accuses Scientology of trying to 'utterly ruin' her in legal plea for injunction
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Notwithstanding Scientology's protests, Leah Remini urged a judge to grant her plea for a temporary restriction against the organization and its representatives.
According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Remini—who was a member of Scientology from 1979 to 2013—and her attorneys requested a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to grant her request.
The actress, who was introduced to the religion by her mother when she was eight years old, has previously criticized the congregation for what she saw as fear tactics and for allegedly aiding some of its members in avoiding jail time for various offenses.
Leah Remini has been allegedly 'harassed and intimidated' by Scientology
In 2023, Remini filed a lawsuit against David Miscavige, the head of Scientology. She said that the church and its representatives had been harassing her for years.
Remini said the church attacked her on several websites and social media accounts. She added that they have organized campaigns to demand that advertisers stop running advertisements on television programs where she has been featured.
The lawsuit stated, "For the past ten years, Ms Remini has been stalked, surveilled, harassed, threatened, intimidated, and, moreover, has been the victim of intentional malicious and fraudulent rumors via hundreds of Scientology-controlled and -coordinated social media accounts that exist solely to intimidate and spread misinformation."
A few weeks later, the actress requested a temporary injunction against Scientology from the court.
Remini gave her reasoning for her choice after departing, saying, "I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, that's what I'm about."
She went on to explain, "It wouldn't matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."
Remini launched a podcast and television program with former churchgoers who stated the organization's allegedly destructive activities had damaged their lives.
Leah Remini wants 'a life free of constant harassment'
Remini's attorney stated in a recently-filed motion, "The reality here is that Defendants have made it utterly impossible for [Remini] to live a life free of constant harassment by a religious organization to which she no longer belongs."
"In opposition to this request to ensure that [Remini] is afforded basic human rights, Defendants’ arguments overlook the well-pled allegations in the Complaint clearly favoring [Remini’s] request for a Preliminary Injunction so that she can be free to live a life where the Defendants are not continuously engaged in patterns of behavior designed to “utterly ruin” her."
Remini requested that the court allow her request and issue an injunction against Scientology from spreading any messages that demean her, the case's witnesses, or anyone connected to her.
She also requested that the order forbid the church from controlling or participating in any kind of harassment, spying, or intimidation tactics. The judge has not yet made a decision.

Leah Remini claimed there was an attempt to break into her gated community
Remini described in her petition how someone tried to break into her gated neighborhood. She further claimed that three supposed Scientology agents had taken her to her mother's house.
Her statement reads, "My mother lives on a steep hill on a dead-end street, and the drivers of the car, two white men dressed in black, were captured on her home’s surveillance camera surveilling the home while talking on a mobile phone. After knocking on the door, the two men, who parked on the side of the street down the hill, departed the area."
The actress stated that following the filing of her groundbreaking lawsuit, church operatives had harassed her and her family. She requested a temporary order from the court to stop Scientology and its members from harassing her while the lawsuit was pending.
Remini also claimed that her sister received strange texts, her mother's business had been vandalized, and her credit cards had been hacked.
However, Scientology has refuted all of Remini's allegations. Over the years, the church has openly chastised Remini and charged her with being attention-seeking.
Scientology insisted that Remini not receive the injunction. The actress, according to the church, did not provide proof of a genuine danger of violence against her.
They further asserted that she was unable to prove the involvement of Scientology in any of the reported activities. A Scientology attorney stated, "The Court should not let itself be used by Plaintiff as a megaphone in her latest public relations stunt."
