Internet agrees with Whoopi Goldberg for defending Malia Obama's debut against 'nepo baby' trolls
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Whoopi Goldberg, the host of 'The View,' garnered significant support on social media for defending Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of former POTUS Barack Obama, regarding her directorial debut under a different surname.
Goldberg's comments encouraged numerous internet users to engage in the discussion and express their viewpoints.
Goldberg recently made headlines again by openly discussing her choice to remain single and enjoy living independently during a segment of 'The View,' emphasizing her preference for sleeping alone.
This isn't the first time Goldberg has stood up for public figures. She previously defended pop icon Taylor Swift against critics who blamed her for issues in the NFL, questioning why men were focusing on matters like this instead of more significant global concerns.
Whoopi Goldberg defends Malia Obama against trolls following her directorial debut
During a recent episode of 'The View' on Wednesday, which Goldberg has been co-hosting since 2007, she criticized trolls for harshly critiquing Malia and her directorial debut under a different surname, as reported by Page Six.
Malia has changed her name from Malia Obama to Malia Ann for her directorial debut. Regarding this, Goldberg stated, as per Page Six, "Apparently some folks online are criticizing her for it, claiming everyone knows she’s an Obama, so it’s pointless to hide it."
Goldberg boldly added, as reported by Page Six, "If she knows she’s an Obama, why do you care? Why do you care what she calls herself? If she wanted to call herself Jeanette MacDonald, she has the right to! If I can be Whoopi Goldberg, she can be whoever the hell she wants to be!" Her statement was met with a loud round of applause.
Goldberg expressed her difficulty in understanding why trolls are "triggered" by Malia's decision to use her middle name as her surname for her directorial debut, 'The Heart,' which premiered last month at the Sundance Film Festival.
Referring to Malia, Goldberg further stated, "This is a grown woman! She is not thinking about her parents! Leave this child alone — leave her alone!"
Goldberg also criticized haters for spending too much time hating and urged them to focus on more significant issues, stating, "You wanna be worried about something? Worry about who’s running for president. Worry about that! This girl is a filmmaker, and she’s doing her own thing. I don’t understand why people feel the need to crush other people’s dreams. You know, when people do that to you, it crushes you. Can you stop?" as reported by Page Six.

After premiering her debut directorial film 'The Heart' at film festivals in Telluride and Chicago, Malia showcased her 18-minute creation at the Sundance Film Festival.
Despite earning recognition in the best live-action short category at both Telluride and Chicago, critics harshly criticized Malia's directorial debut. The film portrays the story of a grieving son faced with an unconventional request from his late mother.
Some online users accused Malia of leveraging her father's reputation and branded her a Nepo baby, alleging nepotism.
Internet users assert haters are trolling Malia Obama out of 'jealousy'
A Facebook user supporting Goldberg's argument, stated, "I agree w Whoopi Goldberg ,we have haters and jealousy out here.Malia Obama could do whatever she want to do and and her Dreams, God keep blessing Malia and family."
Another user wrote, "Some people worry about things that don't concern them, mind your own business, live your own life and don't worry about someone else! You have your own concerns to worry about."
A user commented, "Haters and doubters like to say whatever to hurt others because of jealousy and envy."
Another user commented, "Chile people get mad at celebrities and their children like these folks are paying their bills. Let the girl live her life. 🤦🏽♀️"
