Liam Gallagher says ‘there was no need for’ Oasis breakup but hints at reunion if brother Noel initiates
LONDON, UK: Liam Gallagher has shared his thoughts over the ending of the rock band, Oasis, originally including the 51-year-old, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll.
Liam’s elder brother, Noel Gallagher, also joined the group a few months after its formation in 1991. But in 2009, the band split, reportedly because of a fight between the Gallagher brothers.
Liam Gallagher says he ‘loves’ Noel Gallagher
Recently, the ‘Once’ singer gave an interview to The Sunday Times, where he said, “I love my brother, I love my family, and all that Oasis sh*t, there was no need for it, you know what I mean?” reported Daily Mail.
“Maybe someone can get a bit tetchy on tour. Maybe someone drinks a bit too much. But we didn’t have to split up over it,” he asserted.
Hopes of Oasis reunion
Liam also suggested a reunion is possible if his elder brother Noel takes the initiative.
He shared, “He knows I’m not going to call him. He's the one who split the band up, so he'll be doing the calling, and if there is no calling we won’t be getting back together.”
Referring to Noel’s separation from his wife Sara MacDonald, the ‘Better Days’ singer added, “Now things have changed in his personal life, I can see him looking back, not looking back in anger, and going, ‘Do you know what? I was really mean to my little brother. Now it is time for me to send him a box of chocolates.’”
Liam Gallagher called Noel Gallagher
This came a few days after Liam told MOJO Magazine that Noel did not agree to come together for the 30th anniversary of the song ‘Definitely Maybe’.
He revealed, “I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team... We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing – because we got offered it – and he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money."
“He turned it down. I get it, he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the ‘Definitely Maybe’ thing and have a nice time without him,” the songwriter noted.
Liam Gallagher skeptical about reconciliation
Liam also did not appear very sure about any future reconciliation as he mentioned, “It’s down to the universe. It’ll happen when it happens, it’s not in our hands anymore. Me, I love nostalgia though. I’m doing a lot. Every album.”
In 2022, Noel told the ‘Pub Talk’ podcast that there won’t be any reunions.
He said, as per The Independent, “I don’t like going back over things. I always say to people ‘would you go on holiday with your ex missus?’”
“Oasis sells as many records now, per year, as we did when we were together. We’re as popular now, in the eyes of the people, as we ever were and I’m happy with it. If we got back together, it would be a circus and there’s no point. Just leave it as it is. I’m happy,” the musician remarked.
