DURHAM, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Former President Donald Trump launched a verbal assault on President Joe Biden, labeling him a "threat to democracy" by quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin, reported CNN.

Trump infamously quoted the Russian leader during a campaign event in Durham, New Hampshire, on December 16.

"Joe Biden is a threat to democracy. He's a threat," he said. "Even Vladimir Putin … says that Biden's — and this is a quote – politically motivated persecution of his political rival is very good for Russia because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others about democracy," said Trump who is seeking a second presidential term.

Though Trump and Putin had an estranged relationship by the end of the former presidency in 2020, Putin was the first to congratulate Trump in 2016 when he won the election.

Similarly, an NBC News report says the Russian President was among the last world leaders to recognize Biden's victory in 2020.

For nearly a month, Moscow pondered over the notion that Trump could overturn the election result, and only on December 15, 2020, did Biden receive a congratulatory telegram from the Kremlin.

Donald Trump claims he is facing political prosecution

Trump continued the rhetoric, apparently attributing the indictments against him as a result of political prosecution. "We talk about democracy, but the whole world is watching the persecution of a political opponent kicking his a**," said the White House hopeful to the crowd.

Trump, seeking the 2024 presidential candidacy, dominates among the other Republican contenders. However, he will have a series of trials to attend in 2024 after running for his second presidential bid.

According to BBC, out of the 91 indictments against him, 41 are for his alleged attempt to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Trump, who recently stated that he would act as a dictator for one day if elected, had earlier also referred to Biden as a "threat to democracy."

On December 10, during a speech hosted by the New York Young Republican Club said, "No, I'm not a threat. I will save democracy. The threat is Crooked Joe Biden."

Internet says Donald Trump is projecting

Social media reactions to Trump's speech include widespread criticism for quoting Putin against the incumbent President, with some users pointing out that the former President has turned "delusional."

A fourth reaction read, "Trump is the biggest threat America has ever faced …. FACT."

"So much projection. It never ends," stated one user.

Another called Trump "Delusional." While another one labeled him "Full fascist!."
