Liz's aunt Ana Medina told The Messenger, "Anybody can jump to conclusions and act like they're the police, like CSI, but nobody will ever understand what a mother goes through."

"I hope those who blamed her and even considered her to be a suspect apologize." She continued, “I hope this never happens to them or any family member because it’s the most horrible thing that can happen to any family.”

According to Fox News, Liz's mother Jackie Medina spoke with her daughter at 7:30 am on Tuesday after leaving for work at 6 am. That was the final time she was contacted by anyone.

Jackie left work, changed, and headed to the town's Christmas parade, where Liz was supposed to make an appearance with her cheerleading squad.

She asked her friends where her daughter was when she didn't see her, but nobody knew. Jackie found her daughter's body in the bathtub as she hurried back home.

Jacqueline, Lizbeth's mother, described the horrifying moment she found her dead daughter at their shared Cottonwood Apartments last week.

On Tuesday, just before Lizbeth left for work at six in the morning, she had woken her up to remind her to go to cheer practice with her Edna High School teammates before the afternoon parade.

But Lizbeth was noticeably missing from the parade after work, and Jacqueline hadn't heard from her since 7.30 am. Worried, Jacqueline phoned Lizbeth's phone repeatedly without success.

After calling a friend and entering the restroom, she was unable to obtain any information and hoped that someone else could help with the search. She found Lizbeth's foot in the bathtub at that very moment.

After getting over her shock, Jacqueline pulled back the curtains to witness the horrifying scene. Lizbeth, who went by Liz, was a junior at Edna High School and intended to attend Arlington University to study nursing.

Following the tragic incident, the suspect, Rafael Govea Romera, was apprehended in Schulenberg, approximately 50 miles north of Edna.
