WASHINGTON, DC: Martin Short shared a humorous take on Melania Trump's reported distaste for her time in Washington, DC, and the prospect of returning to the White House if Donald Trump were reelected.

The comedian was filling in as host for 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on Tuesday, June 25, when he used his trademark wit to cut through the current political chatter surrounding the former first lady's absence from Trump's 2024 campaign.

Martin Short's candid take on Melania Trump's marriage expectations

Short began by acknowledging Melania's apparent reluctance to return to the White House, saying, "I actually have a little empathy for Melania. I mean, she entered into this marriage with a certain expectation. And that expectation was that the average life expectancy for an American male is 76.3 years old."

The former president celebrated his 78th birthday on June 14.

The 'Only Murders in the Building' actor pointed out the historical norm of first ladies residing in the White House with their husbands and joked, "Almost every First Lady has lived in the White House with her husband except for Nancy Reagan, who spent most of the '80s shacked up with Mr T. That's the only picture of them we can show on television."

Short teased the idea of Melania finding solace in attending state dinners and official events, saying, "Yes, that's when she really comes alive."

In typical fashion, the comedian also took aim at Trump's persona and the broader implications of his presidency.

Discussing the possibility of Melania moving to Canada, he referenced a bizarre story involving a Canadian psychic grifter, illustrating his point with humor. "Maybe if Trump wins, Melania can just move to Canada because according to the story I saw today, there are plenty of Trump-like con artists up there too," quipped Short, a native of Canada.

Netizens and Kimmel's viewers had a lot to share when it came to Short's take on Melania's expectations from Trump and her supposed reluctance to return to Washington, DC.

One wrote, "I'm sure Melania is also contractually obligated: to not divorce or speak against him while he's trying to be a politician."

Another said, "I did like the life expectancy joke. Does she get an overtime bonus now?"

"No she don't She is as awful as he is," said a person and someone else added, "Martin's right. Melanie hates Washington and despises Trump."
