NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) disrupted a House Judiciary Committee hearing on June 13 by attempting to subpoena Donald Trump’s New York City prosecutors, who had already agreed to appear before the committee, making Jim Jordan call for a "recess."

As per The Washington Times, on June 13 Republican Rep Matt Gaetz proposed a motion to subpoena Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to testify before the House, asserting that lawmakers cannot rely on the prosecutors to appear voluntarily.

After being recognized for five minutes of questioning by Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), Gaetz stated, “I got a motion. Mr Chairman, I move under committee rule four and clause two of House rule 11 to require the attendance and testimony of Alvin Bragg and Matthew Colangelo on July 12th to discuss their involvement in the Trump prosecution, including their offices, and coordination with the Department of Justice.”

Ranking Member Jerry Nadler (D-NY) retorted, “It’s a little absurd because Mr Bragg and Mr Colangelo have already agreed to appear before the committee on July 12th."

“We have a letter to that effect. So there’s no point requiring them to do what they’ve already said they’re going to do. The committee asked them to appear. They asked to appear today. They made the point that they did. Or Mr. Bragg, I should say, made the point that he didn’t think he should appear before the sentencing on July 11th, but he would be available thereafter. And he’s agreed to come on July 12th,” Nadler explained.

“Chairman, this debate’s out of order!” Gaetz reverted.

“You made a motion, it’s not out of order,” replied Nadler, as Gaetz furiously said, ”You have to seek recognition,” at the senior Democrat as Jordan said he recognized Nadler.

“I’m still on my time. I’m still controlling two additional minutes of time,” Gaetz shot back.

Nadler repeated his point and attempted to introduce a Fox News headline into the record, which Gaetz objected to, insisting that his motion be addressed.

“Mr Bragg and Mr Colangelo have agreed to come on the 12th,” Jordan replied. “If they don’t show up on the 12th, they will be subpoenaed. I would ask the gentleman if he could withdraw the motion.”

Gaetz refused to withdraw his motion, stating, "I’ve made a motion to subpoena these individuals now, according to the rules, and I want a vote on my motion, or I want someone to move to table it." A Democrat motioned to table, and others seconded. Amidst the commotion, someone remarked, "This is crazy," as Jordan tried to halt a vote on the motion.

"The committee will stand in recess," Jordan announced, prompting a brief break.

After the recess, Gaetz agreed to withdraw his motion following assurances from the chairman and Democrats.

Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records on May 30 and is scheduled for sentencing on July 11.

Social Media calls both Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan 'bozos'

Viewers criticized both Gaetz and Jordan as the latter countered Rep Gaetz, affirming that the New York officials had committed to appearing and that the committee could subpoena them if necessary. Jordan called a recess to consult with staff regarding Gaetz's motion.

One viewer shared, "Nonstop clown show."

In a similar vein, another observer chimed in, "This is what Republicans consider governance. Stupid chaos that essentially prevents government from doing anything useful (like services) with all the tax dollars we pay to them."

Moreover, a viewer highlighted, "Truly. Bozos. Every single Republican."

A comment emphasized, "Do-nothing Republican House continues on doing nothing."

Echoing this sentiment, another comment noted, "Isn't Jordan late for his own subpoena?

By a few years."

Expanding on the topic, an individual elaborated further, saying, "do these guys ever legislate , or is it all just stunts?"
