LONDON, ENGLAND: The ongoing split between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle has reportedly been exacerbated by the Duchess' allegedly "cruel" remarks regarding Princess Charlotte.

Tensions escalated in the run-up to Meghan and Prince Harry's May 2018 wedding. Rumors circulated at the time that Kate was moved to tears by the Duchess of Sussex after they couldn't agree on bridesmaid outfits.

Meghan Markle's alleged remarks about Princess Charlotte 'reduced Kate to tears'

In 2018, Meghan got married to Prince Harry, bringing her into the royal family. She soon found that living in the UK presented difficulties in addition to the need to adjust to the lifestyle of a royal.

While Meghan, 42, was an outsider without aristocratic origins joining the royal institution, she was in a similar situation to Kate, 42, when she married Prince Harry. However, the two struggled to connect.

In the run-up to Meghan and Harry's wedding, tensions between Meghan and Kate escalated. The duo reportedly got into an argument over bridesmaid outfits at the time, leading Kate to tears.

In a separate account of events, author Tom Bower wrote in his book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War between the Windsors' that Meghan compared Princess Charlotte to her closest friend, Jessica Mulroney's daughter Ivy.

According to anonymous individuals referenced in Bower's book, Meghan "compared Princess Charlotte unfavorably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney's daughter".

Initially, it was reported that Meghan had made Kate tear up but it was eventually made clear that Meghan was the one who had been emotional.

Harry, 39, has also stated that Kate apologized by sending flowers following their fight, per Irish Star.

According to Bower's book, Kate was "tired" following the birth of her third child, Prince Louis, only a few weeks before the Sussexes' special day.

Despite royal custom suggesting the bridesmaids wear tights, the now-Princess of Wales was reportedly "too fatigued" to argue with Meghan on the matter.

Meghan maintained her position, citing Jessica Mulroney, a former close friend, as evidence that the bridesmaids did not require tights.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's rift was allegedly over Princess Charlotte's dress

According to Bower's book, there was also a disagreement between Kate and Meghan over Princess Charlotte's dress length. Kate felt that it was too short and ill-fitting.

According to the book, Kate was offended by Meghan's unwillingness to "compromise" and thought Charlotte's dress "was too short". However, Meghan provided her perspective in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"She [Kate] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized. And she bought me flowers," Meghan said in the Oprah Winfrey interview.

Meghan added, "A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining - yes, the issue was correct - about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings."

"And I thought, in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding, that it didn't make sense to not be just doing whatever everyone else was doing, which was trying to be supportive, knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot."

The Duchess said at the time: "It wasn't a confrontation, and I actually think it's… I don't think it's fair to her to get into the details of that, because she apologized."
