Nestor Joel Lujan Flores: Drunken driver arrested for striking pedestrian and dragging body for 40 miles
DALLAS, TEXAS: An intoxicated driver reportedly struck a pedestrian, causing them to be propelled through the windshield and into the front passenger seat.
Instead of stopping, the man is alleged to have continued driving with his unexpected passenger for almost 40 miles.
A subsequent investigation is underway to explore the charges against the intoxicated driver and the circumstances leading to the tragic death of the unidentified pedestrian.
What did Nestor Joel Lujan Flores do?
In the aftermath of the tragic incident in Texas, White Settlement police have disclosed additional details about the crash that led to the death of a pedestrian from Dallas.
The suspect, identified as Nestor Joel Lujan Flores, was arrested on the night of Saturday, December 16, after being found unconscious in a White Settlement restaurant parking lot.
Inside his car, located 40 miles away from the original crash site, a lifeless body was discovered. Currently, Flores is facing charges of intoxication and manslaughter.
White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook suggested that the 45-year-old victim may have been homeless.
The initial collision occurred in the vicinity of I-30 and Cockrell Hill Road, where the victim was struck while standing near the intersection.
Following the events, human body parts were discovered by Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the area.
A 911 caller reported an individual entering a White Settlement Jack in the Box restaurant, covered in blood and seeking a phone charger.
Flores, who had previously faced a DWI arrest in 2020 by Plano police, was discovered slumped over the wheel in the parking lot.
He informed officers that he believed he had hit a deer, describing the victim as being upside down with the head towards the passenger floorboard.
Blood was discovered on the vehicle's hood, roof, and rear, and Flores exhibited glassy, red eyes, along with signs of staggering and slurred speech, according to Fox4 KDFW.
What did the Police say?
During a news conference addressing a Tarrant County DWI crackdown for the holidays, Chief Cook expressed disbelief, stating, "You are so impaired that you strike a pedestrian on a service road, and you don't even realize it is a human being? I cannot fathom the level of impairment."
According to Fox4KDFW, Cook mentioned that tests for Flores' blood alcohol concentration are currently in the processing stage, adding, "I can tell you that once we placed him in the back seat of our car, the officer commented that it smelled like a brewery in the back seat of his patrol car."
According to authorities, Flores resides in the city of Arlington and only came to a stop in White Settlement because his car became inoperable.
Following the incident, law enforcement agencies in Tarrant County held a press conference, announcing extra patrols throughout the county for the holiday season.
The victim's identity has not yet been disclosed, with police actively working to reach out to family members.
