The dramatic incident unfolded in East Flatbush, prompting a rapid police response after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire and a dispute around 6 pm.

According to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell, officers were already on high alert, actively searching for a potential shooter in the area. As they canvassed the neighborhood in an unmarked car, they stumbled upon a harrowing scene at the intersection of East 57th Street and Remsen Avenue.
The gunman, identified as the 20-year-old suspect, was in hot pursuit of another man and a woman, firing his weapon at them as he ran. Without hesitation, the officers sprang into action, swiftly confronting the armed assailant. “Our officers jump out quickly. They take care of the threat,” said Chell.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the suspect was shot “numerous times" and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. Miraculously, the two individuals being pursued by the gunman escaped unharmed, thanks to the quick intervention of the NYPD.
Unexplained shooting incident leaves elderly man injured
“Once again tonight, you see New York City police officers running towards danger, running in the middle of gunfire, stopping the threat and saving two people’s lives,” Chief Chell said, per New York Post. While the officers involved in the shootout were taken to local hospitals for observation, their injuries were not disclosed.
Additionally, a 60-year-old man was found shot on a nearby block, although the circumstances surrounding his injury remain unclear. “We’re not sure how that occurred,” Chell stated. However, authorities have confirmed that he is expected to survive. Following the exchange of gunfire, a weapon was recovered from the scene by the police.
