LOUISIANA: Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has signed a new bill that mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom across the state.

"I’m going home to sign a bill that places the Ten Commandments in public classrooms," he boasted at a Republican fundraiser on Saturday, June 15. "And I can’t wait to be sued." Landry made good on his promise, signing the legislation and declaring, “If you want to respect the rule of law, you’ve got to start from the original law giver, which was Moses.”

While Christian conservatives praised the governor’s actions, the response from other quarters was swift and critical. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced its intention to sue the state. “We’re suing Louisiana for requiring all public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom,” the ACLU stated. “Public schools are not Sunday schools,” reported Mediaite.

Lucien Greaves, co-founder of the Satanic Temple, also condemned the legislation, calling it a "completely unnecessary, unconstitutional bill devoid of any credible state interest. The bill sparked a brief but heated social media exchange between Landry and California Governor Gavin Newsom. “Louisiana has the worst crime rate in the nation – but this is their priority,” Newsom tweeted.

Landry fired back, criticizing Newsom's "liberal hug-a-thug policies" and pointing out that Louisiana had held a crime special session within his first two months in office. "Maybe Gavin is unaware that the Lord says thou shall not kill, steal, or rape! By the way, the only reason California is not the worst is they quit reporting," Landry retorted.
