Patti Smith claims she did not collapse, says it was 'some post migraine dizziness'

Patti Smith explained that she had experienced dizziness from a migraine and dismissed reports exaggerating the situation.

Smith took to Instagram on Thursday, January 30, to update fans about her health, sharing a selfie where she smiled and waved at the camera.

"This is [me] letting everyone know that I am fine," wrote Smith.

"I had some post migraine dizziness. Had a small incident, left the stage, and returned 10 minutes later and talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them 'Wing' and 'Because the Night'," she added to the post.

She further said that she had been seen by an "excellent doctor" and assured fans she was in good health.

Smith collapsed about 30 minutes into the event while reading a text about climate change, according to local reports. She fell on stage and remained down for a few minutes before receiving help, the Associated Press reported.

Journalist Micheline Alves, who was seated near the front, described the moment Smith fell.

"She clearly felt dizzy. She started moving backward and fell in a way — I think she tried to support herself on the microphone or the music stand. And everything fell on top of her. It was a bizarre scene," Alves said during a phone interview.

Smith was briefly taken offstage in a wheelchair but later returned to address the audience. Meanwhile, another video shows Smith performing 'Because the Night', with the audience singing along.
