LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Kevin McNally was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and later released on a £40,000 bond.

The 67-year-old British actor was arrested shortly before he was scheduled to attend the world's biggest 'Dr Who' fan conference in Los Angeles, as reported by The US Sun.

In the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' television series, McNally—who is married to 'Downton Abbey' actress Phyllis Logan—portrayed Joshamee Gibbs, Jack Sparrow's first mate, alongside Johnny Depp.

Kevin McNally's wife Phyllis Logan denied knowing about actor's arrest

Kevin McNally is wed to Bafta-winning actress Phyllis Logan. However, authorities would not provide specifics about his alleged victim, citing privacy laws.

McNally also has a son David with his actress wife. Logan denied being aware of McNally's detention when visiting his family in Chiswick, West London.

McNally was scheduled to make an appearance at the 'Dr Who' fan conference Gallifrey One at a Marriott hotel in Los Angeles on Friday, February 16, but was detained early on that day.

The organizers merely informed the fans that he would not be performing due to personal issues when they made the announcement on social media.

However, LA police revealed to The Sun that the actor was being detained on allegations of causing a traumatic condition by an injury to a victim who was either his spouse, cohabitant, or child's parent.

Kevin McNally defended 'Pirates of the Caribbean' co-star Johnny Depp

McNally stood up for his 'Pirates of the Caribbean' co-star Johnny Depp, 60, when Depp was accused of beating up his former wife and actress Amber Heard.

Depp lost a high-profile case at the High Court in London in July 2020 following his lawsuit and the publication of an article calling him a "wife beater" in The Sun.

In 2016, his ex-wife Heard filed for divorce, alleging verbal and physical abuse from him. She also gave a testimony in London.

Following the case, Depp lost his lucrative part in the 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise, per Daily Mail.

"I’ve never seen a hint of a dark side to him," McNally remarked at the time. "I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow."

While McNally, who has portrayed Jack Sparrow's first mate Mr Gibbs throughout the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film series, was upset about Depp's exclusion, he did not object to more adventures as he felt that it was Sparrow's persona that initially made the franchise so successful.

McNally defended at the time: "I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there's probably a lot of truth in that."

"But now there have been questions about that, certainly why not have other 'Pirate' films and certainly then why not have Jack back or Jack playing a different part," he added.

"I mean I was musing about this the other day and you can easily think of stories in which maybe somebody is looking for Jack and come to Mr Gibbs and say, 'How would I find Jack?'"

"And so have a whole bunch of people on a trek to find the legendary Jack Sparrow. You can certainly keep those names alive, even in a film that doesn’t necessarily contain the [original] characters too much."
