WASHINGTON, DC: The 2024 US general election is fast approaching, and potential voters are faced with an austere dilemma: either a candidate seeking retaliation or a candidate with no solid plans for their second term.

This sobering conclusion was revealed by an exclusive poll conducted by DailyMail.com, which collected responses from 1,000 likely voters who were asked to provide a single word that describes Joe Biden and Donald Trump's objectives for a second term.

The results of the poll indicate why many voters feel underwhelmed by the choices presented to them.

Concerning Biden, the responses suggest that he has not effectively communicated his political platform to voters, with the most common answer being 'Nothing'.

'Economy' and 'peace' came in second and third, respectively.

On the other hand, Trump's word cloud was considerably different, suggesting that he has been successful in making his intentions clear.

The former president, who often spends a large portion of his time denouncing his opponents and critics, is linked to words such as 'revenge', 'power', and 'dictatorship'.

Political match-up from 2020 set to play out again in 2024

Both aging political candidates, Trump and Biden have faced challenges communicating their messages in recent months.

Donald Trump's campaign rallies have been minimal due to his involvement in legal proceedings and his team's preparation for them.

There have been instances where he had to use the steps of courtrooms to deliver his political speeches.

He has been critical of prosecutors and judges whom he accused of conspiring to prevent him from becoming President.

In January 2024, he will resume his campaign trail in Iowa, ahead of the caucuses in mid-January, a crucial opportunity for him to gain an advantage over his Republican opponents for the party nomination.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden has been handling a series of crises, from Ukraine to the Middle East to the Mexican border.

He has been juggling the demands of international allies from the White House, as well as friends and foes in Congress.

Although his positive message that he is the best person to lead the country's economic recovery from the pandemic has been consistent, polls indicate that it has not been well-received.

Aides have indicated that he will ramp up his campaign events in the new year, which is eagerly awaited by his supporters.

Biden is trailing Trump despite his political successes as president

Biden's lead over Trump has dwindled in the last six months, as evidenced by the aforementioned poll, which had him ahead by one point in June, behind by one point in September and October, and now behind by three points in November 2023.

The potential second-term agenda of former US President Donald Trump has been the subject of much public scrutiny.

Trump has openly expressed his intent to use the Department of Justice as a political weapon and to seek retribution against his perceived enemies.

Following the events of January 6, 2021, Trump has surrounded himself with loyalists who may be less inclined to exercise restraint than the officials from his first term.

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the former President was asked to promise "you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?"

Trump's answer, "Except for day one," was intended to provoke outrage.

Democrats reacted strongly to Trump's statements, with their word clouds featuring words like ‘power’, ‘dictatorship’, and ‘corruption’, as well as ‘destroy’ and ‘anarchy’.

Republicans, on the other hand, had a more positive outlook, with their word clouds featuring words like ‘America’, ‘success’, ‘peace’, and a leader who could tackle pressing issues such as the ‘economy’ and ‘immigration’.

Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf observed that while people had strong feelings about Trump's potential second term, they were less certain about what Joe Biden hoped to accomplish.

He demystified the DailyMail poll results, saying, “The Biden strategy right now is to make sure that people know Trump is anti our democratic system. That his rhetoric is dangerous, therefore, he is dangerous. But what this poll says is, that may not be the case, because we really don't know whether people think he is dangerous or not.”

This could be interpreted as a weakness for the incumbent ahead of November 2024.

In contrast, Democrats had a clearer idea of what Biden's second-term agenda might entail, with the top words being ‘economy’, ‘democracy’, and ‘peace’.

Internet suspects similar outcome to 2020 may be on the cards

People on X have been theorizing and forecasting the year ahead for the two presidential frontrunners from either side of the political divide, with many predicting that even if Trump loses, he won't admit it, leading to a replay of the events the nation witnessed in 2020.

One X user wrote, "It’s almost as though he is completely predictable, since this pattern has been in place since 2016: 1) inflate expectations, 2) undermine confidence in elections, 3) deny the result if it doesn’t go his way."

Another user said, "Well it’s not like he could ever admit to losing."

Someone else stated, "He's not setting himself up to look bad. He's priming the pump for the grift, because if the questionable polls say he's going to win bigly and he loses instead, it's "obviously" because there was "cheating.""

One user said, "As we know all too well, Trump has both the capacity, and the inclination to spin election results in any way (good or bad) that suits him. Planting the seed early is very much part of his modus operandi."

Another wrote, "MAGA are no victims of lies being told to them. They proactively seek conspiracies that are conveniently beneficial to them and blockout legitimate data, facts and news. The 'perpetrators' of lies are just opportunists, starting with Trump. And he loves the undereducated so much."

"He’s been trying to undermine election integrity since he kicked off his 2016 campaign. You would think most people could see though him In 2020 that was his intent ever time he spoke about early , mail and absentee voting . He went as far as trying to destroy the postal service," someone else noted.

One user remarked, "He played the same card in the summer of 2020."

"What would you say to your child who keeps saying, “If I don’t win it’s because the other person cheated?” another asked.
