Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remain silent on sixth wedding anniversary amid royal family snub
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's sixth wedding anniversary came and went with little celebration.
Both the couple and their royal family chose to remain silent on the occasion.
To provide background, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot six years ago on May 19, 2018, in a grand ceremony in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle followed by an exclusive evening reception hosted by King Charles at Frogmore House in Home Park.
However, it seems that the Sussexes opted for a private celebration this year, without any public acknowledgment or social media tribute.
Reportedly, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, and other royals didn't acknowledge their anniversary, pay tribute, or share any memories from the pair's wedding six years ago, as per Mirror.
Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter says Prince Harry might not have married Meghan Markle if Princess Diana had been alive
As the couple marks their sixth anniversary, one royal expert believes the wedding may never have taken place if Princess Diana had still been alive.
In March, Dickie Arbiter, a commentator on the royal family and former press spokesman for Queen Elizabeth II from 1988 until 2000, shared his perspective on Harry and Meghan's relationship during an interview with Times Radio.
Arbiter expressed, "If Diana had been alive, I'm going to stick my neck out here, and I doubt Harry would have married Meghan. Diana was very careful about her boys, they were her boys. She protected them, and she would have protected them against anybody she felt wasn't the right person."
He also mentioned Harry's previous relationships, noting that while he desired a family life like his brother William's, his previous girlfriends were hesitant about the intense public scrutiny.
Arbiter opined, "My own personal opinion is that he rushed into the marriage."
How did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrate their past anniversaries?
Meghan and Harry marked their first wedding anniversary in 2019 in a simple way, as revealed in the book 'Finding Freedom', written by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie.
Meghan's mother, Doria, visited the UK to meet her grandchild, Prince Archie, who was born just weeks earlier on May 6 and the family shared a meal together.
The authors wrote, "On their first anniversary, Harry and Meghan had a traditional Sunday lunch with Doria, her last meal before returning to LA."
Prince Harry also surprised Meghan with an eternity ring, crafted by renowned jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, which the former actress wore for the first time at Trooping the Colour the following month.
For their second anniversary in 2020, shortly after they moved to California following their departure from the royal family, "they exchanged gifts based on the theme of 'cotton', showing their creativity and romance."
Traditionally, leather is given for the third anniversary, followed by fruits and flowers for four years and wood for the fifth. According to The Knot, iron gifts are exchanged for the sixth anniversary, as per PEOPLE Magazine.
