Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Nigeria trip left King Charles and Prince William 'absolutely furious'
LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s unofficial Nigeria tour has reportedly left King Charles and Prince William “absolutely furious” and “scratching their heads” to think of a way to end the nightmare.
Royal author Tom Quinn recently shared with The Mirror that Harry and Meghan’s successful Nigeria trip has infuriated the top tier of the royal family.
King Charles and Prince William left enraged by Meghan and Harry's Nigeria trip
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the African country for a whirlwind tour over the past weekend. The tour, branded as an “unofficial” royal tour by many, has reportedly left the present and the future monarch seething.
Tom Quinn recently shared with The Mirror, "William is absolutely furious and determined to find a way to stop this happening in future. Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him.”
The royal author continued, "What’s really upset the applecart is the fact that the Nigerians treated Meghan and Harry as if they too thought this was an official tour – all the signs were there as the couple were greeted with dances, receptions, visits to schools and charities."
He added that the royal family had feared for a long time that the Sussexes "would try to pull a fast one" and the Nigeria trip has just “confirmed their worst fears".
Quinn continued, "It’s as if Harry and Meghan have gone rogue – their Nigeria trip is a bold statement that they refuse to accept they are no longer working royals.”
"William and Charles are scratching their heads and thinking, 'How are we going to control this nightmare situation?'" added the royal author.
Quinn propounded that the visit had all the components befitting a royal visit, and said, “Everything you might expect from an official royal visit was there – the receptions, the visits to schools and charities, to wounded soldiers and the disabled.”
The royal commentator further shared that the king and the crown prince also did not like the fact that the Sussexes carried themselves as if they are still working royals while in reality they stepped down from the role in 2020.
"Meghan and Harry's speeches and their whole attitude has been designed to give the impression that they are still fully paid-up royals and William and his father King Charles don’t like it one bit,” added Quinn.
He continued, "For Charles and William, it’s as if Meghan and Harry are saying, 'We don’t need your permission to be working royals – we will do it on our own terms whenever and wherever we like.'"
Quinn further continued in his interview with The Mirror, “King Charles is in a terrible bind – he would love to strip Meghan and Harry of their royal titles, but fears this will look vindictive. On the other hand, he has to find a way to put a stop to any future trips by Harry and Meghan to other commonwealth countries. That has now become his number one priority."
The author claimed, “King Charles will use back channels to try to block any further invitations to the wayward couple, but that will prove very difficult. The ultimate fear for King Charles and William is that Meghan’s rebelliousness actually ends up making her more appealing than the understated members of official team royal. That’s why she always makes a point of holding Harry’s hand for the cameras, something she knows William and Kate would never do."
He further shared that Buckingham Palace is in talks with sources to curtail any future invite from any Commonwealth countries.
He added, “But after Nigeria one thing is certain: huge efforts will go into changing the way the royal family deals with its role in the Commonwealth. Steps have already been taken via official channels to try to lessen the chance that other Commonwealth countries invite Meghan and Harry to visit."
