Boeing 747 makes emergency landing after its engine catches fire
The New York Times reported that an engine failure forced the Boeing cargo plane bound for Puerto Rico to turn back to Miami International Airport soon after taking off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The airline, Atlas Air, said on Friday morning that Flight 5Y095 had an “engine malfunction” shortly after leaving the airport and landed safely. A video from the ground showed the plane flying with flames coming out of the engine repeatedly.
As per the New York Times, the FAA said in its preliminary report that there was “a softball-size hole” above the No. 2 engine, which it would investigate further.
The New York Times reported that Atlas Air said in a statement, “The crew followed all standard procedures. At Atlas, safety is always our top priority and we will be conducting a thorough inspection to determine the cause.”

According to the New York Times, FlightAware, a service that tracks flight data, showed that a Boeing 747-8 aircraft departed from Miami International at 10.11 pm on Thursday. It arrived back at the airport around 10.30, the FAA said.
A Boeing spokeswoman said on Friday morning that the company was referring questions to Atlas Air.
The video of the aircraft landing at Miami International with its engine on fire went viral on social media, where many people shared their anxiety and concern.
