WASHINGTON, DC: Republican Rep Victoria Spartz of Indiana was charged with a gun violation at an airport serving the Washington, DC area.

"Victoria Spartz, 45, of Noblesville, IN, was charged on Friday, June 28 with a weapons violation at Dulles Airport," according to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

TSA officers detected a .380 caliber firearm in Spartz's carry-on bag during routine security screening. The firearm was unloaded but carrying it through airport security is a misdemeanor under Virginia law.

This incident adds to the growing controversies surrounding the Ukraine-born congresswoman, who has represented Indiana's 5th Congressional District since 2021, per Daily Mail.

Complaints against Rep Victoria Spartz

Known for her outspoken stance against funding the Ukraine-Russia war and her endorsement from the National Rifle Association (NRA) in April, Spartz has been a polarizing figure in American politics.

The timing of this incident is particularly notable, coming close on the heels of allegations from former staff members who have labeled Spartz as the "worst boss" on Capitol Hill.

These staffers have accused her of "manic" and "abusive" behavior, including throwing furniture and shoes at aides. The House Ethics Committee is reportedly conducting preliminary inquiries into these complaints, though Spartz has not been formally notified of any investigation.

The congresswoman's high turnover rate among staff members further fuels the narrative of a tumultuous work environment, as tracked by Legistorm's "worst bosses" tally from 2001 to 2023.

Internet reacts to Rep Victoria Spartz's airport gun violation

The internet has been abuzz with reactions following the news that Indiana congresswoman Spartz was charged with a gun violation

A social media user commented, "She must have thought she's still in Congress where she'd never go through a metal detector, her Congressional lapel pin didn't do her any good at the airport."

Another added, "Unload the firearm, place it in a locked container, separate from the ammo....in your CHECKED BAG, declare it at the check in counter. I take mine with me everytime I fly."

A third claimed, "It’s a misdemeanor in Virginia, but if she was caught in New York, it would be a felony probably."

"Why do this keep happening? And they say they forgot which makes it worse because it means they have no idea where their gun is!" read a comment.

"The first question I have is whether or not she has a DC permit, if not, she's likely been breaking their laws, although I don't blame her given DC's crime rate. Checking a firearm in a locked case at our airports is a breeze. There really is no excuse for not knowing where your pistol is and if it's in your carry on," asserted an individual.

"Wow, so much respect for the country that gave her refuge and shelter. This is the type of immigrants the Republicans should not allow in the country and, more so, representing members of the party of law and order. Why are the Republicans silent?" questioned an individual.

A comment read, "Unbelievable."

Another individual said, " It's not that difficult to follow the laws of flying with firearams. She should be punished."
