WASHINGTON, DC: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr, 70, lashed out at CNN debate moderators Dana Bash and Jake Tapper on Tuesday, accusing them of "cheerleading" COVID lockdowns.

In an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Kennedy criticized the network's support for pandemic-era policies and praised former President Donald Trump as the "greatest debater in modern American history."

When asked who he thought would win an upcoming debate, Kennedy responded, “I don’t like to make predictions, but I would predict that Trump will win.”

He praised Trump’s debating skills, comparing them to those of former President Abraham Lincoln. “He could win a prize for the greatest debater in modern American history, probably since Lincoln-Douglas,” Kennedy said, referencing the historic 1858 showdowns between Lincoln, then a Republican candidate for Senate from Illinois, and his Democratic opponent, Stephen Douglas.

Kennedy elaborated on Trump’s abilities, citing his 2016 primary performances. “I’m saying that based upon watching him run through 16 Republicans one at a time [in 2016] and just demolish them," he explained.

“He’s extremely entertaining to watch. He has an ability to make up facts and then believe them absolutely — and to sell them to the crowd,” reported the New York Post.

“He’s a brilliant entertainer and nothing fazes him,” Kennedy added. “I don’t think it’s possible for President Biden to beat him in that debate.”

Morgan then speculated about a potential "train wreck" debate scenario, asking whether Joe Biden might be replaced by another Democrat before the party’s August nominating convention. Kennedy acknowledged the possibility, noting that super-delegates would ultimately choose the next nominee. “So I think, you know, they would probably — some of them would welcome that chance.”

RFK Jr rips CNN as COVID lockdown ‘cheerleaders’

Further, Kennedy, asserted that Bash and Tapper would fail to ask "tough questions" of either the 45th or 46th US presidents due to their endorsement of lockdown measures.

“On some of the biggest, most monumental decisions during their presidency, like the lockdown of the American public, the CNN announcers were cheerleaders for those lockdowns,” RFK Jr told host Piers Morgan.

Kennedy went on to highlight the economic consequences of the lockdowns, claiming they transferred $4.3 trillion in wealth to billionaires, destroyed the middle class, and shut down 3.3 million businesses.

“Jake Tapper was cheerleading for that. So do you think he’s gonna ask them any of the tough questions?” he questioned.

Morgan defended the CNN moderators, stating, “I think Jake’s a great journalist. I’ve worked with him for CNN. I think Dana Bash is, too. I think they’ll actually do a very good job.”

Kennedy also criticized the criteria for attending the debate, alleging that CNN colluded with Trump and Biden to exclude the Presidential Debate Commission.

“Since my uncle’s premier debate with Nixon, this has never happened,” RFK Jr lamented, referring to the historic 1960 debate between his uncle, Sen John F Kennedy, and Vice President Richard Nixon.

When asked if he would consider a job in a Trump or Biden administration, Kennedy firmly stated, “I intend to win the race. I’m not looking for a job in government.”

Despite his current third-place standing in national polls, according to the RealClearPolitics survey aggregator, Kennedy remains focused on his independent presidential campaign.

RFK Jr mocked for praising Donald Trump

A social media user tweeted, "I don’t wanna make Donald Trump mad, but I really love RFK jr."

Another added, "Kids, this is what drugs can do to you! #JustSayNo."

A third claimed, "Kermit the Frog salutes the Cookie Mobster’s skill set!"

"A cabinet position may await him, maybe a position to get to the bottom of the Covid thing," read a tweet.

"Brain worms are back," said a user.
