WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr, an independent presidential candidate, filed a Federal Election Commission complaint on Tuesday, May 28, claiming that by excluding him from a scheduled debate for June, CNN, President Joe Biden, and former President Donald Trump broke federal campaign and debate laws, as per the New York Post.

Notably, on June 27, the two likely major party nominees will meet face-to-face at the network's Atlanta headquarters. Third-party candidates will not be participating.

Kennedy's team said that by using "criteria that were designed to result in the selection of certain pre-chosen candidates," CNN "colluded" with the Biden and Trump campaigns to keep the 70-year-old out of the debate.

The complaint pointed to a May 17 Washington Post article stating that the Biden team discussed with CNN about preventing Kennedy's involvement in the debate.

Notably, CNN responded to the complaint by referencing its eligibility requirements for debates, which state that a candidate must receive "at least 15% in four separate national polls of registered or likely voters that meet CNN's standards for reporting" and appear "on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency prior to the eligibility deadline."

A network spokesperson told the New York Post in a statement, "The law in virtually every state provides that the nominee of a state-recognized political party will be allowed ballot access without petitioning."

It added, "As the presumptive nominees of their parties both Biden and Trump will satisfy this requirement. As an independent candidate, under applicable laws, RFK Jr. does not."

Although the procedure to appear on the ballot is still underway and many of the signatures have not yet been formally validated, Kennedy currently claims to have enough signatures to be on the ballot in 15 states that offer 229 electoral votes.

The CNN spokesperson added, "The mere application for ballot access does not guarantee that he will appear on the ballot in any state. In addition, RFK Jr does not currently meet our polling criteria, which, like the other objective criteria, were set before issuing invitations to the debate."

Internet blasts RFK Jr as he files a complaint against CNN

Several internet users slammed Robert F Kennedy Jr as he filed a complaint claiming that CNN, President Biden, and former President Donald Trump broke federal campaign and debate laws by excluding him from a scheduled event for June.

A user posted on X, "This guy has zero chance of winning the election, and everyone knows it," while one added, "To save democracy we must restrict choice. It's that simple."

A person also stated, "Please stop wasting everyone's time," whereas one mentioned, "He'll get more views on X than the debate will."

A user also wrote, "The more democratic debates the better," while one stated, "He should work harder/smarter to make his name known."
