Robert McClure admitted to killing his girlfriend Christine Miller
Police were called to the apartment complex around 9:30 am on November 22, where they discovered a horrific scene.
McClure was found by officers holding a cloth around Miller's neck in an attempt to stop severe bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.
In interviews with investigators, McClure readily admitted to perpetrating the deadly attack, stating plainly, "I did stab that lady."
The accused claimed to be acting on directions he was hearing in his mind, which told him Miller "needed to die" because she was a "witch."
No official diagnosis has been given on Robert McClure's mental health
Neighbors and acquaintances paint a picture of McClure as a troubled man with a history of mental health issues. Though no official diagnosis has been confirmed, many suspected he suffered from schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders.
McClure had allegedly complained of hearing menacing voices and seeing visions of demons and witches -- phantom tormentors who he said were inhabiting his building and persecuting him. His behavior had become increasingly erratic in recent weeks, according to fellow residents.
Tragically, Miller seems to have been an innocent victim of McClure's violent delusions. Despite being his girlfriend, she became just another "witch" in his mind that the voices commanded him to kill.
The horrific violence has left the once-peaceful retirement community reeling.
Many residents knew both the victim and the alleged killer, having interacted with them regularly. Local authorities are still investigating the full circumstances around the tragedy.
Meanwhile, McClure awaits further legal proceedings in custody
