SCOTT COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI: Authorities in Mississippi are actively searching for Sammy Patrick, who is suspected of sexually assaulting and murdering a 73-year-old Dee Eady before setting her body on fire.

Furthermore, Patrick is alleged to have stolen a truck and an ATV, as well as to have robbed a Subway on New Year’s Day, according to Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee speaking to Law&Crime.

How did Eady die?

Patrick's alleged crime spree reportedly commenced on December 20 when he stole an ATV and committed a vehicle burglary. Additionally, as stated by Lee, he is suspected of burglarizing a car in Newton.

Subsequently, at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, Scott County deputies were called to a residence where they discovered the body of 73-year-old Dee Eady, who had succumbed to a gunshot wound.

According to Lee, Patrick is alleged to have sexually assaulted Eady and partially burned her body using gasoline.

Law enforcement authorities assert that Eady became aware of her dogs barking while conversing with one of her nieces on the phone. She then ended the call and began to investigate the source of the disturbance.

Lee indicated that when someone interfered with one of Eady's outdoor cameras, her family members grew concerned.

Deputies suspect this individual to be Patrick. Upon arriving at Eady's residence, the family member found her lifeless body beneath the carport. Lee mentioned that despite one camera being turned off, other cameras recorded the incident.

Police continue the manhunt

Patrick is alleged to have committed a robbery at a Subway restaurant situated in Woodville, a town north of the Louisiana state line, around 2:00 p.m. Investigators found that he was driving a truck stolen from Newton's Old Highway 21 while probing the robbery.

The disabled license plate number associated with the vehicle is DBW5119, specific to Mississippi. The pursuit involves the participation of US Marshals, Louisiana State Police, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Detectives are currently working to ascertain the connection between Patrick and Eady. Lee mentioned that Patrick resides nearby and might have previously performed odd jobs for Eady’s late husband, potentially being familiar with her solitary presence at times.

Detectives have secured a warrant for Patrick's arrest on a capital murder charge.
